Communications Manager

Job Description

Job Purpose/ Summary:

To provide experienced editorial, public relations and crisis comms expertise, together with digital media capability to enhance and expand the role of the Press Office to support business objectives. To leverage fully the opportunities created through the CSR and sponsorship activities undertaken by the company and create employee engagement where possible. To join the duty rota to provide comms support to Duty and Crisis managers.

 

Scope/ Dimensions:                           

Build awareness across relevant stakeholder groups regarding the initiatives to deliver sustainability of the business in the long term. Add strong capability to the digital offering through internal and external facing platforms.  Build brand equity through enhanced public exposure of the company’s community activities, ensuring the reputation of the business is perceived positively.  Manage, where appropriate, key messaging in crisis situations or specific reputational challenge scenarios.

                                                                      

Principal Accountabilities:                

Enhance positive coverage of our success story and future investment plans. Further develop our digital capability. Build awareness of our retail brand in both B2B and B2C areas. Maximise leverage from existing CSR programmes. Maximise return on sponsorship investment. Identify new opportunities for stakeholder engagement. Develop and manage employee volunteering/CSR programme. Provide rota support for crisis comms/SECC.

                                                                      

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience   

Degree level education or equivalent. Substantial managerial experience in a communications or public relations role within a high profile organisation, including internal communications, ideally gained in a corporate setting. Strong editorial, digital and influencing skills. Experience of working with partner agencies to deliver CSR programmes. Understanding of energy or manufacturing industries.
