Production Manager

Job Description

The Company is a world leading supplier of turbine components into a multitude of sectors with numerous blue chip global OEM customers. The facility is part of a separate company group, which has been recently acquired by The Company and forms a key part of the group’s strategic growth plans.

Basic Job Content:

·         Responsible for all aspects of plant operations, environmental, health and safety, quality, maintenance and finance

·         Maximise the sites productive capabilities to achieve agreed service levels and customer satisfaction

·         Manage and implement change to develop a culture of ensure continuous improvement

·         Foster a well-trained and motivated staff.

Authority/Competence:

With the agreement of the Plant Manager, has the authority to plan and implement changes or initiatives to achieve main responsibilities, provided these comply with Company policies and do not exceed financial authority limits.

Detailed Job Description:

Ø  Production Planning:

·         Analyses site organisation and defines improvements based on the key processes. Implements these improvements after discussions with the Plant Manager to identify the necessary means: internal or external resource (e.g. procedures, working methods); technical (e.g. materials, IT-systems or others); and/or financial means

·         Monitors and manages the following areas on a daily, weekly or monthly basis:

·         The detailed production plans and forecasts to support the delivery of products to the end customer.

·         Inventory levels in line with production plan and achievement of performance

·         Any failures within both the planning/forecasting system and the build processes associated with the plan forecast

·         Liase with both internal and external organisations within the group to create optimum build sequence plans.

·         Consideration to the overall needs of the business must be given at all times, in developing short/medium and long term plans

·         The development of the Production Operations in terms of individuals, teams and processes, ensuring a positive contribution to a total business plan.

·         Ensures the achievement of the continuous improvement plans/targets

Ø  Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management:

  • Overall Site responsibility for the Management and Implementation of all EHS Policy and Procedures
  • Manage and coordinate the Implementation of the Corporate Safety Policy
  • Works with fellow managers and the site to achieve overall site EHS targets
  • Consults with Site EHS Manager to reduce accidents, maintain compliance and improve safety, standards and procedures
  • Monitors implementation and performance by:

·         Ensuring continuous progress of programmes for Risk Assessment/Safe Working Practices/Information, Instruction and Training, through line management

·         Recording, investigating, and identifying measures to prevent, injuries and accidents, through line management

·         Participating in Safety Committee meetings, hazard-spotting/housekeeping, and auditing

·         In conjunction with the Site’s EHS Manager, organises and maintains all statutory safety checks and insurance work

Ø  Quality Management:

  • Implement and maintain ISO 9001 procedures and, where possible, revise or create new procedures in line with the aim of continuous improvement
  • Provide support to the site to maintain and improve Quality and business process standards.
  • Actively participates in quality measures and targets

Ø  Human Resource Management:

  • Analyses organisational needs (e.g. number of people, qualifications and competence) with reference to Company targets
  • Aligns Department goals with the needs of the Organisation
  • Assesses individuals’ performance and training needs through objective setting and the Company Appraisal scheme
  • Sets priorities, determines level of resource and ensures appropriate methods are used
  • Conducts regular team meetings and briefings
  • When recruiting, performs job interviews and, with the assistance of the Plant Manager and Human Resources Manager, appoints a candidate based on all relevant information, such as qualifications and experience.
  • Responsible for ensuring that under performance/not complying with Company polices and procedures are dealt with through the Company’s disciplinary procedures

Ø  Financial Management:

  • Sets, together with the Plant Manager, the annual manufacturing budget for the factory (e.g. direct labour, raw materials, packaging, overheads, overtime, transport, etc.)
  • Monitors all site costs via the factory financial accounting systems and takes

corrective actions where necessary

  • Works with the Plant Manager to provide recommendations for the creation of an annual investment plan

Degree of Autonomy:

  • Works autonomously within own parameters of authority and responsibility
  • Holds regular meetings with the Plant Manager to review targets and results.

Complexity:

  • Takes decisions on operational and organisational matters
  • Analyses the needs of the site and the effectiveness of support and cooperation from and with other departments
  • Looks for improvement opportunities in organisation and processes.

Person Specification:

  • Degree/Diploma in an Engineering discipline is preferred
  • 10 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Full understanding of modern manufacturing philosophies, i.e. Poke Yoke, Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen Activities, 5 ‘S’, DFM, etc.
