Job Description

1.             Job Details:

                Job Title:      Manager, Head Office Control

                Reports to:   Head, Internal Control Department

2.            JOB PURPOSE:

To assure or enhance the reliability of financial reporting, effectiveness and efficiency of operations, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

3.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

•Minimum a degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics (masters will be an advantage) and membership in an internationally recognized professional accounting body e.g. CA, CPA, ACCA, CIA.

•Minimum of six (6) years of relevant experience in internal control or audit function within a Bank. 

•Strong and demonstrated experience in handling technical accounting and financial reporting issues.

•Conceptual, analytical and financial modeling skills

•Experience in writing internal policies and procedures and process evaluation and documentation

•Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.

•Detail oriented and ability to work and interpret figures and other financial information.

•Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Access and Power Point.

4.  KEY RESULT AREAS

      Key Functions:

•Appraise the adequacy and effectiveness of the internal control structure set up for Head Office operations.

•Review the established organizational systems at the Head Office to ensure compliance with policy. 

•Review the structures in place for safeguarding the Bank’s assets.

•Enforce ownership and proofing of internal (GL) accounts and review GL proofs prepared by other departments to ensure that open items are within approved timelines.

•Confirm that accounting records and transaction documentation are complete, and accurate.

•Be alert to the potential for fraud, theft, embezzlement, defalcation and misappropriation of assets during the performance of control function.

•Evaluate any plans or actions taken to correct reported exceptions and perform adequate monitoring to ensure that effective corrective actions are taken and implemented.

•Monitor compliance with limits for dealing with other parties on all products, services, expenses etc.

•Identify potential areas of income leakage and recommend corrective action plans.

•Monitor open items on account reconciliation statements to ensure that they are properly resolved in line with approved transit times.

•Ensure protection and security of source documents by highlighting for remediation improper custody and control failures.

   Staff Management

•Oversee the work of the Head Office Control Unit.

•Monitor the Head Office internal environment to ensure optimization and effective use of staff resources.

•Monitor staff performance and compliance with the Internal Control Manual.

•Monitor training needs of staff and ensure training is in accordance with schedule.

•Abide with the Bank’s ISMS (Information Security Management Systems) policies and procedures

•Safeguard the Bank’s information assets in accordance with its ISMS policies and procedures
