POSITION: GENERAL MANAGER
REPORTS TO: Managing Director & Minerals Manager, Africa
INDIRECT RESPONSIBILITIES TO:
DIRECT REPORTS: Laboratory Manager, QA Administrator
BASED IN: Ghana
JOB PURPOSE: The primary purpose of the role is responsibility for the day to day management of the company’s Ghana GeoChem operations and additional performance of all regional Geochemistry facilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Full P&L responsibility and accountability for Ghana Geochemistry Operations (Revenue & Costs)
In liaison with the management team, area managers and senior supervisors, manage all aspects of the operations to ensure that the business operates as a profitable concern.
Apply international standards in the establishment of laboratory practices and ongoing quality control procedures both analytical and administrative.
Reviewing and implementing test methods, implementing new technology, investigating and resolving technical problems.
Actively add to Business Development and Marketing within the West African Region and attend to client liaison as and when required.
Training and evaluation of staff and providing technical expertise as required.
Be a key member of the management team to ensure effective operations with regard to economic performance, quality and turnaround
Ensure approval processes are followed for all purchases, capital requests, replacements and repairs and maintenance as per the Financial Approvals Matrix
Assist with budgets and forecasts as required by management
Responsible for management of productivity and expenditure to meet budgets
Responsible for management and control of inventory, ensuring cash is not unnecessarily consumed by inventory levels but also management of consumption of inventory which shall be controlled and consumed in line with revenues.
Co-operating with other stakeholders to develop the business within the The Company group
Comply with all laws, regulations, policies and procedures concerning QHSE and Occupational Health
Implementing and adhering to policies and procedures in accordance with ISO17025
Overall responsibility for compliance with and maintenance of SANAS accreditation
Attending to any disciplinary matters of a serious nature involving senior staff.
Liaison with the HR Manager with regards to all aspects of HR policies and procedures
Provision of monthly management reports as required
Any other tasks as required by the Minerals Manager or his delegate
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum first degree qualifications are desirable
A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in operational senior management roles in a geoanalytical laboratory environment.
Above average organizational and communication skills
High level of computer literacy and familiarization with Microsoft office software and LIMS systems.
Good understanding of analytical procedures.
Good understanding of labour dynamics in Ghana and interacting with Labour unions in particular
