The Role
- l Principal Accountabilities
Propose, gain support for and implement operational aspects of the compounding business unit strategies - 1. Assist in development of the mission, vision and functional strategies for the compounding business as the base for compounding operations.
- 2. Develop and identify safety, financial and operational targets, linking all objectives to a 5 year business plan, clearly communicating objectives to staff and motivating staff toward successful achievement of the objectives.
- 3. Work with APO asset management to ensure alignment between the compounding operational strategy and the Basell APO BU strategies, exploiting areas of potential collaboration and reciprocal benefits. Model and communicate good management practices and values to positively influence employees' behaviors, monitor and manage individual and company performance.
- 4. Interface with the external business & local government environment, anticipating and initiating the necessary actions to protect interests and further its business objectives.
- 5. Ensure the development and maintenance of business controls and management systems, and support the attainment and maintenance of all appropriate ISO/TS qualifications.
- l Develop and expand compounding activities in China
- 1 Lead the development of the compounding operation into a lean, successful, value-adding and sustainable profitable operation.
- 2 Build and lead the new team as appropriate to ensure a highly effective and efficient operation
- 3 Ensure the compounding site project is managed within the agreed budget and specifications; ensure timely commissioning and start up.
- l Ensure customer satisfaction
- 1 Ensure all compounding customers are satisfied by meeting their needs.
- 2 Ensure a business process is in place to follow up and address customer queries and complaints to ensure a high level of customer service to target accounts.
- l Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources
- 1 Direct the preparation of annual budgets and operating plans, ensuring their communication, implementation, evaluation and control such that Basell's objectives are achieved.
- 2 Develop and implement actions to achieve and maintain a cost leadership position in the China compounding market.
- 3 Establish communication systems to ensure that individual objectives and performance within the team are maintained congruent with Basell's policies and procedures.
- 4 Control overall business working capital (stocks etc) within agreed budget.
- 5 Implement management controls to ensure fiscal responsibility and a healthy financial structure; establish a set of key performance indicators (KPIs) for all activities to ensure that the proper resources and actions are in place to deliver agreed improvements and that each areas' expectations and accountabilities are well-defined and understood.

Create and foster commitment to allow the highest degree of integration of team members and build individual capabilities in accordance with corporate personnel policies - 1 Identify, drive and implement a set of key programs for improvement in terms of efficiency, flexibility, product quality and consistency.
- 2 Coach and assist the new product and supply functions to manage trade-offs between inventory levels, manufacturing efficiency, supply chain costs and level of service to customers to reach agreed inventory targets, to improve and rationalize the product portfolio, to develop an effective risk management and product stewardship process, to develop and implement a sound
and accurate product costing/mapping practice. - l Plan for the future growth of compounding business
- 1 Continually develop the organizational structure, business processes and employees to ensure that they are capable of achieving the company's objectives.
- 2 Evaluate and implement capital expenditures that will ensure the future viability of compounding business in China.
- 3 Continuously improve the manufacturing standards and operational efficiency of the compounding operations.

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCY PROFILE: - Formulations knowledge to enhance plant performance, build acceptance and credibility with customers, and contribute to development discussions with customers.
- Experience on a compounding site to gain process knowledge, understanding of KPIs and understanding of debottlenecking.
- Technical understanding of compounds: raw material, applications and formulations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in running an organization; ability to motivate and train an inexperienced team.
- Understanding of market trends, industry drivers and the compounding business in the region.
- Ability to lead strategic planning process and motivate a team to achieve the desired business results.
- Confidence in individual ability and the capability to work independently.
Cultural adaptability and sensitivity - Decision making, negotiation and influencing skills
- Drive and the strong will to succeed.
QUALIFICATIONS: - 1 Tertiary degree in Polymer or Material Science, Chemical Engineering or similar related field.
- 2 Minimum of 7 to 10 years experience in multinational company, preferably in the chemical industry
- 3 Minimum of 5 to 10 years in manufacturing, marketing or a sales function; preferably in Advanced Materials.
- 4 Broad-based compounding experience including experience in technical service/engineering for compounds
