Job Description

This position bears responsibility for:

  • Strive to acquire profitable reassurance business which adds to the bottom line of the Life business, value of new business and embedded value
  • Assist in developing and driving the Life Client strategy, which includes the marketing and branding strategy, and the product and innovation strategy
  • Manage clients pro-actively, taking responsibility for deliveries including tenders/quotes, new product development, research, and general communication
  • Coordinate tender projects, pulling in functional experts where required
  • Responsible for client data collection and validation
  • Research various areas including:
  • (re) insurance market and industry trends
  • Client strategy and opportunities
  • Competitor strategy

This will include:

  • Building collaborative and sustainable client relationships
  • Marketing the good name of the business to external parties
  • Ensuring current accounts with clients remain profitable
  • Commercial decision – making (reviews client pricing provided)
  • Priority setting – within Life Business Development, Life Product & Pricing (Middle Office) and Basis Development (Corporate Actuarial)
  • Coordinating client functions
  • Efficient treaty management and documentation processes

Knowledge & Skills Required for Competence in Position

Minimum Formal Education & Required Work Experience

  • Qualified Actuary (FIA / FFA / FASSA)
  • Life insurance experience (at least 5 years)
  • Marketing exposure and experience
  • Strong interpersonal, networking and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal, communication and presentation skills
  • Product development and pricing experience in life insurance
  • Strategic thinker with sound foresight
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Excellent skills in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Self starter
