Job Description

1.            Job Purpose:

Part of the Refinery Planning Team in the delivery of an end-to-end optimal refinery production plan with the key objective being to drive improvements in refinery margins, in both operational and tactical time frames.

The scope of work includes:

-       Programming the refinery on a daily, monthly and yearly basis to deliver optimised margin

-       Work on all key aspects related to refinery optimization which include crude, feedstock, market-mix and plant asset optimization on a short/medium and long term basis.

-       Ensuring compliance with My clients standard operating procedures and developing / modifying where required

-       Managing interface with key stakeholders at Supply Trading/Marketing/Manufacturing.

-       Support economic appraisal of business performance



-       220 KBPD refinery

-       Managing optimization of almost 1 Million Tonnes per month of production.

-       Decisions taken by this role can have impact on more than US$ 50 M per year of margin optimization opportunities. 



EPS is at the heart of My client’s Downstream business.


EPS has the primary responsibility of optimizing the physical supply chain and maximise the overall margin potential across My client.


The Planning lead, leads a team of planners in the EPS organisation working closely with Refining, IST and Commercial stakeholders.

Key Challenges:


1.     Fosters mutual business understandings through effective communication between Manufacturing, Commercial and Trading as key leader in EPS


Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The position requires commercial and customer acumen, combined with a solid understanding of refinery and petrochemicals hardware, including sound knowledge of optimization tools such as ASPEN PIMS. Thus, significant experience in Manufacturing and Supply is required.

Experience of refinery operations and technology, planning and scheduling, blending and product quality is a distinct advantage as is prior management experience across the oil/chemical downstream business.

The job requires energy, creativity, flexibility and the capability to focus on the right priorities, e.g. in balancing margin versus costs.

Good communication skills are essential to manage the large number of interfaces inside and outside the refinery and to build a strong team and working spirit within the planning team and wider EPS team.

Candidate needs to have a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering. It is desired that the candidate also has an MBA degree.
