Project Process Engineer

Job Description

Job Purpose: 

The Projects Department provides project development and management services to the site for all capital investments on site.
The Projects Department maintains a core group of process, discipline engineers and project leaders, together with project services support staff. Projects are executed via flexible, multi-disciplinary teams. Team working and interpersonal skills are of great importance.
The Process Engineering group are principally responsible for the technical development of projects from scouting stage, through Front End Development to the Basis of Design (BOD) or Basic Design and Engineering Package (BDEP) and estimate stages, ready for approval. Process engineering at detailed design stage is also undertaken on some projects. 
The Process Engineer's role is to lead and support the development of projects through these various stages working with the asset owner, the Technology Department and the Project team to ensure a robust, cost effective and fit for purpose solution is delivered to the business.


*Site capital expenditure, managed by the projects department has averaged between £30M and £50M per annum in recent years.
*Individual projects can range in size from £50k to over £100M. 
*The position will have no direct reports; however there may be a requirement to manage contractor staff on larger projects.
*The project environment is highly focused on team working across all disciplines within the department, with the contractor and with the site production unit staff. The incumbent will play a key role at the interface with Production and Technical departments and will need to display a high degree of customer focus and good interpersonal skills
*The success of projects is determined in the development phase and the successful candidate will need to be dynamic and proactive in determining and implementing ideas for improvement in this area.

Principal Accountabilities: 

*Deliver Basis of Design and Basic Design and Engineering packages to fully meet the customer requirements and to the required schedule. 
*Ensure the Safety & Integrity of the design through application of project processes, good engineering practice and the application of structured design reviews including HAZOPS.
*To defend the functionalities and thus the cost/benefits of these packages under the scrutiny of the customer (Value Engineering)
*Generate quality improvement initiatives to improve project development cost & schedule
*Proactively manage interfaces between Production and Service units across the site to ensure consensus between the various stakeholders. The incumbent will need to display a high degree of customer focus, have good interpersonal skills and work well within a team.
*Work with the Project Leader in supporting the completion of some of the key project deliverables to meet the Project Assurance milestones (Risk Reviews, Value Engineering, Opportunity Framing as examples) 
Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 

*Degree in Chemical Engineering, and either a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership, ideally with a minimum of 6 years experience
*Knowledge of Petrochemical and / or Chemical process arising from assignments in process operations support and / or development technology would be beneficial
*Experience and use of Process Simulation tools would be beneficial
*Experience of HAZOPs would be beneficial
*Proven communication, inter-personal and team working skills.
*Sound understanding of Design Safety and Environmental issues
