Head - Internal Control

Job Title:             Head, Internal Control

Reports to:         Chief Risk Officer

Back up:               Line Managers, Internal Control


•Provide leadership and managerial guidance to staff in Internal Control Department.

•Plan/develop/review and supervise the implementation of Internal control checks in both the branches and the head office departments  as means to monitor the compliance with existing policies, procedures, circulars and decisions with the objective of minimizing institutional risk exposure.

•He/she will also be in charge of follow up on implementation of management decisions following recommendations from internal audit, Bank of Ghana, external auditors, or other control/compliance related decisions as assigned by the Chief Risk Officer or Executive.

•Oversee all the aspects of the institution’s internal control management.  He/she is responsible for developing and maintaining well-structured systems and structures for identifying, analyzing, proposing and implementing measures that will minimize (potential) risk, as well as promoting reasonable compliance culture amongst all staff within the institution.                     

Description of Specific Duties

1.       Head office and branch Control activities

•Identify and build a team of Internal Control Officers to do control reviews in the various branches and head office departments as well as to develop training programs to enhance the efficiency of their work.

•Directly supervises the performance of the Branch and the Head Office Control Managers.

•Supervises the Branch and Head Office Control Manager in developing and supervising the implementation of control review plans for the Internal Control Officers.

•Identifying and proposing risk prone areas of credit, banking service operations and head office departments and making recommendations to the Chief Risk Officer and the heads of departments for improvements.

•Planning/developing/reviewing and supervising the implementation of programs for control reviews in business units and support departments.

•Reviewing the processes and procedures of the institution’s operations to identify process risk and implementing solutions to manage such risk.

•Assist in the provision of special training on the introduction of new procedures/processes, policies and products, in collaboration with related departments.

2.       Information security Management

•Ensure setup and implementation of Information Security Policy to identify and prevent exposures to accidental or intentional destruction, disclosure, modification, or interruption of information that may cause reputational, information and/or financial loss to ProCredit SLC Ghana.

•Participation in New Risk Approvals to cover the area of IS

•Ensure that all IT systems security implementations are monitored regularly and IS risk events escalated.

3.       Discussions and Trainings

•Discuss with related supervisory departments on the high risk as well as control findings and ensure implementation of decisions following such findings.

•Identify training needs for staff and make relevant suggestions to the relevant operational departments.

•Make suggestions on best practices observed in branches and ensure experience sharing (through BM meetings or workshops)


•Quarterly  reports toChief Risk Officer and MRCC

•Any other reports requested by Chief Risk Officer

Required Skills and  Working Experience:

•A good first degree from a reputable university

•A relevant post graduate qualification or professional qualification

•Minimum of 12 year experience in supervisory position.

•Strong and demonstrated experience in handling technical accounting and financial reporting issues.

•Conceptual, analytical and financial modelling skills.

•Competent in the use of standard software (Word, Excel, and Power Point) and banking systems.

•Strong knowledge of institutional  policies, procedures, circulars and decisions

•Ability to implement decisions with urgency and firmness.

•Good communication and interpersonal skills.

•Motivated, result oriented, dedicated, willing to learn, enthusiastic and a good team player.

•Should be ready to travel to other regions in Ghana when the need arises.
