IT Scrum Master

About the Role:

A leading hospitality group in Johannesburg is looking for a Scrum Master with a minimum of 6 years’ experience.  The incumbent will be responsible for achieving team unity, a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement against delivery within IT development through coaching, problem solving, facilitating the removal of obstacles, alleviating conflict resolution and improving communication in order to encourage self-organisation and enable the delivery of quality IT development projects to the business operations

 

Minimum Requirements

  • 3-year B Degree in Information Science, IT, Business management
  • Scrum Certification is an advantage  
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in facilitating the delivery of projects through teams in an agile environment 
  • Experience with web technologies and content management systems is an advantage (ie AEM)
  • At least 2 years’ experience at a supervisory / management level; preferably obtained within the hospitality and casino industry
  •  Domestic travel is required 

Job Description

Client Engagement

  • Review key development projects from business clients to understand forecasted IT development requirements
  • Engage with the client to understand their expectations and level of satisfaction around specific technical implementation requirements 
  • Liaise on a regular basis with clients to build positive and sustainable relationships
  • Identify opportunities for system and technological improvements ensuring these are relayed to IT development team for further action
  • Facilitate the sign off implementation plans and contractual agreements in line with client expectations 
  • Work with clients and IT development teams to ensure the resolution of any outstanding issues in line with timelines and expectations
  • Be the point of contact for clients for any outstanding issues to ensure implementation is aligned to agreement and expectations
  • Follow-up with client to ensure delivery against objectives and level of client satisfaction following the development process and sign off the project 
  • Identify any gaps, challenges or feelings of dissatisfaction and facilitate the resolution of these concerns

Facilitated Project Planning & Delivery

  • Put the scrum framework together to guide the team towards achieving the project delivery 
  • Work with the IT development team and management to obtain confirmation of project guidelines (including the management of any project contingencies)
  • Set-up and facilitate daily scrum, sprints and stand-up meetings to monitor progress and understand any challenges being experienced
  • Facilitate getting the work done through discussion, decision-making and conflict resolution
  • Track progress, backlog size, priorities and product release scheduled and work with management in reprioritising where necessary 
  • Assist with internal and external communication between the client and the team and within the team to ensure transparency and understanding
  • Probe and ask the right questions of the team, such as what they are working on, around distractions and requirements to facilitate progress
  • Conduct research and guide the team to improve the effectiveness of their practices
  • Provide opportunities and tools to maximise productivity
  • Eliminate obstacles to facilitate team progress
  • Resolve conflicts to foster a “state of flow”
  • Liaise with stakeholders around incremental progress, obstacles, opportunities and results to facilitate client satisfaction
  • In collaboration with the IT development teams, facilitate the completion of the project by questioning and providing information to make key decisions, and accepting work products and delivering in line with client expectations

Team Engagement & Support 

  • Collaborates and engages with sales teams with regards forecasted business development 
  • Participate in providing administrative support to the team around liaising with and managing client expectations, getting sign off on delivery briefs, and other related paperwork
  • Build a trusting and safe environment within the team where problems can be discussed and resolved efficiently 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve requests from the team, including providing advisory and non-advisory information to resolve issues and obstacles and enhance product delivery
  • Liaise with IT development team with regards opportunities to build and improve product, based on own interactions with clients
  • Act as the point of contact for the IT development team members with regards current status of performance relative to delivery requirements
  • Provide perspective to the team on how results can be achieved most effectively including answers to questions around user experience, issues with functionality, and about a need to realign the development to fit with changes outside the business
  • Liaise with third-party vendors with regards research, design and opportunities for relevant software design enhancements
  • Identify stumbling blocks and gaps in product development process and provide coaching support to enable team members to achieve required results
  • Provide mentorship to team members to motivate, empower and guide the team
  • Support the management in understanding the requirements and moving the team towards a result

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Guide the team and contractors, including all associated specialist consultants
  • Collaborate with management to effectively achieve results through reprioritizing backlogs and future planning
  • Facilitate the relationship and any risk areas identified to ensure project progress
  • Consult and mediate with business management and the development team in the design, development and planning of projects
  • Obtain feedback from stakeholders and clients on level of satisfaction with product; as well as on enhancements and adjustments to better support them in delivering business requirements
  • Provide strategic guidance and support to team members to overcome obstacles and challenges in arriving at end results
