About the Role:

A leading insurance company in Johannesburg is looking for an Enterprise Architect with a minimum of 7 years’ experience.  The incumbent will be responsible for research and evaluation of potential technology tools, platforms, systems and applications for potential use within the business context, for the enablement of achieving strategic goals.


Job Purpose

To achieve the Company’s vision of “Insurance made Personal”, in alignment with our ethos of executing in a “Simply Brilliant” manner. Project development and management responsibilities include delivering every approved project on time within budget and scope. Business process optimisation is another key area of delivery. The outcome must align in force business and new business results in a manner that meets the company’s strategic goals


Minimum Requirements

Enterprise Architect with a background in Software Development, Project Management and business optimisation Should also have general business skills, management, budgeting and analysis skills. Experience in the Insurance, Health industry and/or other Financial Services, is highly recommended

  • Honours level educational background, preferably in the fields of computer science or engineering (or similar)
  • Proven working experience as an Architect in the insurance sector
  • 6 Sigma / highest qualifications in process optimisation
  • Solid Software Development background, with understanding or hands-on experience in managing and leading Software Dev teams and full SDLC knowledge
  • Excellent client-facing and internal communication skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Job Description

  • Own the design of the Enterprise Architecture from a Technology perspective
  • Responsible for research and evaluation of potential technology tools, platforms, systems and applications for potential use within the business context, for the enablement of achieving strategic goals
  • Work closely with the CIO and the Senior Management team in IT (operations, service delivery, software development, data management) to design and deliver new systems and capabilities to the organisation
  • Support the design and implementation of processes aimed at optimising the business and aligning to the Enterprise Architecture
  • Act as a Change Agent to introduce new systems into the business and operating environment
  • Establish an appropriate team (internal and external) to execute key initiatives
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Ensure that all IT projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation throughout the functional areas of the 3 licences, in relation to prioritized initiatives in these operations
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs
  • Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques
  • Report and resolve with management as needed
  • Manage the relationship with the client and all stakeholders
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks
  • Ensure that relevant Regulatory requirements for product development are achieved
  • Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation
  • Establish appropriate training and communication materials
  • Product and client need research competency

Ensure that the required systems, infrastructure and resources are or will be in place so that the new business / new projects achieve their respective objectives. Ensure that implementation plans are enough with documented systems, to achieve a reliable handover to the Executive: Stakeholder Relationships


Implementation strategies include IT platforms – early analysis is required of the potential IT resources and applications, so that product delivery is achieved in a proactive manner
