About the Role:

A leading insurance company based in Johannesburg is looking for a Claims Handler with a minimum of 5-7 years (general insurance) and 2 years in the Marine industry will be advantageous. The incumbent will be responsible for under general direction, researches, collates, records and examines coverage information to make highly complex short-term claim settlement determinations

  • Number of years of experience required: 5-7 years (general insurance)
  • 2 years in the Marine industry will be advantageous.

Job Description

  • Under general direction, researches, collates, records and examines coverage information to make highly complex short-term claim settlement determinations. Within company guidelines, approves or denies payment. May assist in training lower-level Claims Clerks

  • Fully understand the Institutes Cargo Clauses especially “A”; “B”; “C”, AIR / Frozen Food Clauses
  • Report all complex claims and claims over mandate to seniors based on their mandates.
  • Responsible for requesting mandated payments.
  • Assist in extracting files for diary & maintain diary control as may be requested by Senior claim specialist/team leader
  • Involves team leader / specialist in complicated / problematic claims / large losses
  • Appoint or forward docs to a recovery agent once claims are finalized and update recovery schedule
  • Keeps management / underwriters updated on policies with excessive claims and trends
  • Assist with accounts enquiries / dispatch of documents in respect of reinsurance claims
