Property Treaty Underwriting Manager

Job Description


·         Line and functional management (including responsibility for ensuring that the staff members reporting to this position have the requisite specialist knowledge and qualifications, and for their further development with regard to the competences required)

·         Managing the property treaty portfolio

·         Ensuring optimal resource deployment in the section (assignment of staff in line with their individual competence levels to meet internal, market and client needs and requirements)

·         Ensuring underwriting, pricing and modelling quality and adherence to underwriting guidelines and authorities

·         Ensuring transfer of information and know-how between treaty and the relevant facultative units

·         Developing tailor-made transactions, managing business development projects

·         Participating in negotiations with clients on complex treaty programmes and line-specific issues in liaison with client management

·         Development and implementation of line-of-business and product strategies

·         Playing an active role in managing underwriting quality across the group (incl. firm building)

·         Ensuring that referrals are in line with highest group standards

·         Supporting opinion leadership in the relevant markets (e.g. developing and conducting seminars, workshops, specialist presentations, technical publications, interviews)

·         Support the Head of Underwriting and the Head of Non-Life with regard to reporting, monitoring and portfolio management

·         Implement and keep an innovative mind-set in the team as well as the necessary know how to develop innovative business and develop/maintain a regular exchange with other teams

·         Make sure there is a constructive dialogue with client management and support the negotiations with a sound and technical recommendation






·         University degree (preferably in mathematics, business studies or law) or insurance qualifications with 10 years’ professional experience

·         In-depth reinsurance and line-specific knowledge (Fire/Engineering, ideally based on experience working in the relevant markets)

·         Excellent knowledge of relevant pricing methods, quotation and modelling tools

·         Experience in designing and underwriting complex reinsurance programmes and in developing non-traditional products

·         Analytical skills and ability to work independently and efficiently

·         Capacity for innovation, creativity, good organisational skills

·         Excellent leadership and technical competence as well as proven management experience

·         Strong teamwork skills, knowledge-transfer mind-set

Confident and engaging manner and good negotiation skills, fluent spoken and written business English
