About the Role:

A medical devices company based in Johannesburg is looking for a National Sales Manager with a minimum of 10 years’ sales & marketing experience in the medical devices/disposables/capital equipment field. The incumbent will be responsible to achieve and exceed annual sales revenue & margin targets.

The Job’s Mission

Provides vision, direction and leadership in the development, implementation and execution of strategic plans focused on sales growth and brand recognition of company’s medical products in South Africa. In this role incumbent will hold full responsibility to achieve and exceed annual sales revenue & margin targets for company’s Medical, Physio Control and Sage Business. High commercial sense is needed when it comes to providing direction, coaching and leadership for sales team within scope of responsibility. Will be expected to spend most of the time in the field working with the team, the Business Development Managers and Sales Reps. to ensure success through Indirect Channel Partners and End Customers. Duties include, but not limited to:

Minimum Requirements

  • University degree, or equivalent, higher level of education in Business, Medical and/or Economy/Technical/
  • Minimum of 10 years’ sales & marketing experience, within a multinational company in the medical devices/disposables/capital equipment field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in sales management
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in dealer management
  • Proven experience in delivering market share growth and financial commitments
  • Proficient in both written & spoken English
  • Strong selling, negotiation and communications skills
  • Strategic and analytical thinking abilities and able to make decision
  • High level of trust and integrity
  • Ability to work in a team and to solve problems
  • Proactive style
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Diplomacy and awareness of cultural issues
  • Flexibility to travel within / beyond the territory
  • Demonstrated success in building, managing, motivating and developing strong sales team

Job Description

  • Achieving and exceeding sales targets for the Region
  • Develops and implements regional business plans to consistently achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual quota through indirect channel partners and sales reps
  • Collaborate with EMEA and company’s counterparts globally, lead with vision and inculcate a “can do” team spirit
  • Apply conflict resolution where required, facilitate change and solve problems in the best interest of the company Create a sales culture through development and coaching, ensure sound performance management processes, staff succession plans and continuously scout for talent
  • Responsible for providing guidance to marketing team to prioritize country and regional market needs. Ensure professional effective launching of new/line extension products
  • Develop key relationships with industry/market thought leaders, organizations, and institutions
  • Work with the indirect teams in the field to maximize customer touches and opportunities
  • Ensure accurate sales forecasts each month/quarter for the purpose of company’s Manufacturing and Sales Forecasting requirements
  • Employee engagement: Responsible and accountable for actions promoting an environment that fosters personal and professional growth and development to ensure on-going engagement and success
  • Responsible for keeping the Global Medical & EMEA Teams informed of all sales related activity, market trends, highlights and competitor activity within the region
  • Responsible for personnel management including scheduling, providing technical assistance, and employee development which includes talent selection, hiring, communicating company policies, coaching and counselling, administering performance appraisals, and enforcing company policies through appropriate disciplinary measures
  • Coach and mentor all direct reports and establish development plans for them to exceed expectations
  • Build and maintain relationships with key customers and key opinion leaders focused on maximizing opportunities and solving problems at their level
