International Head of Legal Italy / Germany

Job Description

For a Multinational Company in the entertainment field, we are looking for an International Head of Legal for Italy and Spain to lead a small team providing commercially focused solutions to the operation of the territory's legal, compliance and governance function. Responsible for advising on a wide range of legal, compliance and governance issues within an organisation that is a transformational phase both at territory and Group level.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the territory legal, compliance and governance function (within your multi-country territory), developing the function's capabilities and liaising with and proactively supporting business functions and teams on variety of existing and new projects
  • Lead and/or support Group wide initiatives as the need arises and promote the vision of the legal function to be one team, encouraging collaboration across the Group and within your territory's countries
  • Cover a wide-range of legal issues including: negotiation of general commercial contracts; supporting the commercial and marketing teams with their promotional activity; performing pre-litigation work to minimise risks; developing and delivering training initiatives across a broad range of contractual and compliance activities; and delivering general business compliance requirements
  • Act as the point of escalation and build a network of senior regional contracts across the business
  • Hold responsibility of building strong and cost effective relationships with our external counsel although only using them when/where appropriate and do so within budget
  • Focusing on the continued development of better ways of working to improve efficiency/standardisation of approach across your territory and the Group


  • Significant experience as a senior in-house commercial lawyer
  • Experience in managing a small team in an in-house environment
  • Significant exposure to working across multiple jurisdictions and culture
  • Ability to juggle priorities effectively whilst being able to take a step back and plot realistic timescales, manage stakeholder expectations and be able to take a commercial and pragmatic approach to risk
  • Strong leadership skills with the resilience to deliver in changing environments whilst supporting and nurturing team members
  • It is desirable that the role holder has experience within the retail and or leisure industry with particular exposure to consumer related issues
  • Fluency in English, preferably fluency in German
  • Availability on frequent travelling
