With increasing cost of living in many European countries, there is more talk about going home to countries such as Poland, Russia, Bulgaria, and other Eastern European Countries. And, why not! With the option of flexible working, where you live is becoming irrelevant. There is no need to be a million miles from your family when you can dial in and work from any location. With the cost of living in home countries reduced, this is certainly giving people something to seriously think about. Why pay high rents and high prices for basic commodities when you can earn a good wage for remote working and live at a fraction of the cost.
This is giving us as recruiters something to think about. As we are all struggling to find the right candidates, why not tap into the foreign nationals living away from home and encourage them to return home. As Irina Vasile, our Managing Partner in Romania says, “Now is the time to come home, the demand for highly skilled professionals is incredible. You can be at home, with your extended families and continue to work remotely. A perfect work / life balance.”
My family adjusted well to a move to Ireland and I am sure if needs be, they would adapt to living in any country. Perhaps, one day we may even find ourselves in my ancestral home of Zimbabwe! The saying goes, “Home is where the heart is!”.
