Roles & Responsibility :
The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the conception, development, and design of mechanical systems, equipment, and layouts for mining, mineral processing, and metallurgical plants.
The role includes the design of bulk material handling systems, process plant equipment, and steel plant facilities, ensuring full compliance with project specifications, industry codes, and applicable safety standards.- Develop mechanical designs, 3D models, and fabrication drawings for mining & metals equipment and systems.
- Design and review bulk material handling systems such as conveyors, crushers, screens, stacker reclaimers, feeders, and transfer chutes.
- Support design of mineral processing and steel plant equipment including kilns, furnaces, cooling systems, tanks, bins, and hoppers.
- Prepare and check equipment data sheets, material requisitions, and technical specifications.
- Carry out engineering calculations: load estimation, drive power, belt tensions, stress analysis, and material selection.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant international standards (CEMA, IS, DIN, ASTM, ASME, ISO, API) and client requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors for technical evaluation, design review, and equipment inspection.
- Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, piping and process teams for integrated plant layouts.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability checks, and safety audits.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, erection, and commissioning at project sites.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering (master’s preferred).
- Mínimum 10 years of design engineering experience in the mining, metals, or steel industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software: Strong skills in AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS, as well as experience with Navisworks and SmartPlant. Experience in ANSYS and ROCKY will be especially valued.
- Strong knowledge of bulk material handling equipment and process plant design.
- Familiarity with material flow, wear protection, and maintenance aspects.
- Understanding of industry codes and standards.
- Good communication and teamwork skills for multi-disciplinary collaboration.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in design of conveyor systems, crushing & screening plants, kilns, and pelletizing equipment.
- Exposure to steel plant equipment design (DRI kilns, furnaces, cooling systems).
Fluency in English is mandatory.
