3D Scanning specialist
About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated 3D Scanning Specialist to join our client’s team. This role involves extensive travel across Europe (approx. 50% of the time) to perform on-site scanning at active construction sites, combined with remote or office-based work for processing and coordination. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with 3D scanning technologies, point cloud processing, and integration with design tools such as Revit and AutoCAD.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel to active construction sites across Europe to perform 3D laser scanning using terrestrial or handheld scanners.
- Ensure accurate and complete capture of existing building conditions.
- Process raw scan data into clean, registered, and aligned point cloud models.
- Convert data into designer-friendly formats (e.g., RCP, E57, LAS) for integration with design tools (Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks).
- Manage scan resolution, data size, and segmentation to optimize usability.
- Collaborate with designers and BIM specialists to integrate point cloud models into the design pipeline.
- Provide guidance on best practices for leveraging scan data in design and modelling tasks.
- Support clash detection, model verification, and quality control using scan data.
- Maintain detailed documentation of scanning activities, scan logs, site notes, and QA/QC procedures.
- Communicate scan deliverables and updates clearly to project managers and design leads.
Candidate profile:
- Degree or diploma in Surveying, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in 3D scanning (terrestrial or handheld) and point cloud processing.
- Proficiency with scanning hardware (Leica, Faro, Trimble, or similar) and processing software.
- Strong knowledge of BIM workflows and experience integrating scans into Revit, AutoCAD, Navisworks, or equivalent.
- Ability to travel frequently (approx. 50%) across Europe.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- English proficiency required; additional European languages are an asset.
