Job Brief:
To assist and advise the medical institution with statistical tasks of medical research projects. In this role, he/she will be required to plan and implement the statistical part of medical research for the hospital ensuring that the best research methodologies, design, and ethical practices are adhered to for statistical part of all types of medical research.
Organizational Relationship:
Reports to: Executive Director of Research
Liaises with: Researchers/Principal Investigators/IRB Chair.
Primary Responsibilities:
Master the practice of biostatics including:
- Describe the components of medical research data dictionary.
- Identify various programs for medical research data entry
- Describe data in terms of frequency distributions, percentages, and proportions.
- Use figures to present medical research data.
- Explain the difference between mean, median and mode.
- Calculate the frequencies, percentages, proportions, ratios, rates, means, medians, and modes for the variables.
- Identify other independent variables that are necessary in the data analysis.
- Construct all the important cross-tabulations which will help meet objectives.
- Interpret the cross-tabulations in relation to your objectives and study questions.
- Define incidence, risk, relative risk and odds ratio.
- Calculate relative risk for appropriate study designs (cross-sectional comparative studies, cohort studies, case-control studies and experimental clinical trials).
- Explain different ways of dealing with confounding at the analysis stage.
- Evaluate whether an association between two variables may be influenced by another confounding variable.
- Calculate association in a way that takes into consideration the effect of potential confounding by another variable.
- Explain what is meant by a range, a percentile, a standard deviation, a normal distribution, a standard error and a 95% confidence interval.
- Calculate and interpret ranges, standard deviations, standard errors and 95% confidence intervals for medical research data, where appropriate.
- Explain what a significance test is and what its purpose is and when to use it.
- Choose appropriate significance tests for different sets of medical research data.
- Decide when to apply the unpaired t-test and the chi-square test.
- Calculate t-values and chi-square values.
- Make a decision concerning whether these tests can be used on which data
- Make a decision concerning what test should be used on which data.
- Identify research studies where pairing or matching of subjects is necessary.
- Identify and use the significance tests appropriate for paired data.
- Illustrate the relationship between two numerical variables in a scatter diagram.
- Explain and perform different types of regression analysis
- Prepare and interpret different types of regression analysis
- Organize and directs the collection, processing analysis and publication of statistical data on various research projects.
- Assist investigators in the design of studies and preparation of protocols.
- Design worksheets, table formats, charts and supervises their presentation.
- Design survey questionnaires and data collection instruments for the collection or primary and secondary date
- Applies statistical techniques and methods in the processing and analysis of data.
- Prepares and publishes statistical and technical reports in the research papers.
- Present findings effectively in appropriate tabular, graphical and written formats.
- Review the statistical section of all submitted protocols for the IRB review.
- Advise investigators on data management, data analysis and data interpretation issues.
- Knowledge of the theory, systems and application of statistical research methodology.
- Participates in research activities.
- Performs other duties within the realm of his/her knowledge and ability as required.
Educational/Professional Qualifications:

- A minimum of a master's degree in biostatistics.
- A minimum of a three years' experience as a biostatistician in medical research.
- Impeccable writing and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in research design and data analysis.
- A thorough knowledge of research procedures and best practices.
- Team-working and communication skills.
- Ability to conduct research independently.
- A history of published articles, studies, or research work.
Expertise & Skills:

- To ensure success as a biostatistician, he/she should be highly skilled at planning and conducting all research tasks related to data entry, cleaning, analysis, presentation and interpretation.
- Excellent command of oral and written English and Arabic.
Working Condition:

- The total official working hours is 48 hours per week scheduled according to the business needs.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. There is no exposure or very limited exposure to physical risk.
