A prominent Bermuda-based reinsurer is seeking an Underwriter who has at least six years of experience in underwriting within the insurance or reinsurance sectors, specifically within the property catastrophe field. The successful candidate will oversee an international portfolio of catastrophe risks, engaging in both internal and external communications with cedants, brokers, and experts worldwide.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee an international portfolio of catastrophe risks, ensuring effective communication both internally and externally with cedants, brokers, and specialists worldwide.
- Engage in the underwriting process and strategy, which involves reviewing submissions, analyzing exposure, deciding on coverage, and managing client activities in the global reinsurance markets, particularly targeting the US and/or Europe.
- Assess and set appropriate risk premiums, using independent judgment and discretion in the risk assessment and evaluation process.
- Conduct negotiations within the bounds of assigned authority and adhere to internal guidelines, underwriting procedures, and controls to meet profit goals.
- Represent the company at industry conferences and events to highlight its expertise.
- Actively engage with group stakeholders and develop strong, productive relationships with brokers and clients to uncover new business opportunities.
- Collaborate effectively within a team setting and contribute to the development of strong internal working relationships.
Minimum Requirements:
- A professional certification such as CPCU or ACII, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, law, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in underwriting with at least six years of experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry, focusing on the property catastrophe sector.
- Proficient in the use of catastrophe modeling tools, especially AIR, with a detailed understanding of their application.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, reinforced by a robust work ethic and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively establish, maintain, and expand business relationships across various levels.
- Proven track record of meeting deadlines with the willingness to work additional hours as needed to align with business objectives.
