Role Purpose
The COO will be responsible for the end-to-end operations of the manufacturing footprint, across all plants, ensuring efficient, scalable, safe, cost-effective, and high-quality production. This role ensures that operational strategy is aligned with the promoter’s vision, industry best practices, and customer requirements. Key objectives include improving productivity, optimizing costs, ensuring quality & safety, and enabling growth / expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Develop and implement operational strategies to ensure plant capacity utilisation, throughput, and operational excellence.
- Translate business goals from promoters / board into actionable operational plans.
- Drive continuous improvement (lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, kaizen, etc.) initiatives across plants.
- Manufacturing & Heavy Fabrication
- Oversee steel & sheet-metal fabrication processes: cutting, pressing, welding, folding, stamping, finishing, etc.
- Ensure equipment adequacy, maintenance, and technology upgrades.
- Ensure scalability: manage bottlenecks, ensure production flow, minimize downtime.
- Multi-Plant Coordination & Standardization
- Harmonize processes, standards, best practices across plants.
- Implement consistent quality, safety, and environmental norms.
- Centralize or streamline shared services (logistics, procurement, HR, maintenance) where beneficial.
- Quality, Safety, Compliance
- Maintain high quality standards (both internal QC and customer‐driven).
- Ensure safety in operations: compliance with workplace safety, environmental regulations.
- Champion certifications: ISO, TS (if applicable), etc.
- Cost Management & Productivity
- Control operational costs: raw materials, energy, labour, overheads.
- Improve productivity metrics (yield, scrap reduction, cycle time, throughput, utilization).
- Monitor KPIs and take data-driven corrective actions.
- People & Leadership
- Build and lead operations leadership team (plant heads, production, quality, maintenance etc.).
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, innovation, continuous improvement.
- Training, talent development and retention, succession planning.
- Supply Chain, Procurement & Logistics
- Ensure reliable supply of raw materials (steel, sheet metal, etc.), timely procurement, vendor development.
- Manage inbound & outbound logistics for parts/products.
- Inventory management: raw materials, WIP, finished goods.
- Budgeting, Forecasting, & Performance Tracking
- Prepare operational budgets, forecasts, capital expenditure proposals.
- Track performance (costs, output, quality, safety) against targets.
- Regular reporting to promoters / board, with insights and action plans.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Industry Experience: Minimum 15-20 years in manufacturing / heavy fabrication / automotive components, especially steel & sheet metal processes.
- Multi-Plant Exposure: Must have managed operations across at least 2-3 plants, ideally in automotive / OEM / Tier-1 supply chain.
- Functional Depth: Strong in operations (production, maintenance, quality, safety), process engineering, supply chain & procurement.
- Leadership in Indian Promoter-Driven Culture: Comfortable with direct reporting to promoters, ability to work in dynamic, entrepreneurial environment, strong decision-making.
- Academic: Engineering graduate (Mechanical / Metallurgy / Production / Industrial), preferably with advanced degree / diploma / certification (MBA / Masters / Six Sigma / Lean etc.).
- Certifications & Tools: Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma / TPM / Kaizen etc.; exposure to quality standards like ISO / TS / IATF etc.
