Purpose of the role
The Controlling Director is responsible for overseeing the budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting processes within the organization. This role owns the cost control strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and long-term financial sustainability. The Director partners with executive leadership (CEO/COO) to influence investment decisions, optimize resource allocation, and mitigate financial risks. Leveraging advanced analytics and ERP systems, the role drives forecast accuracy, cost optimization initiatives, and continuous process improvements. The Cost Control Director also leads a high-performing team, fosters cross-functional collaboration, and ensures compliance with global accounting standards and internal governance policies.

Responsibilities
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develops, coordinates, and monitors the annual budget planning process and periodic forecasts in alignment with group requirements.
- Perform long-term financial planning, risk mitigation strategies, and alignment with corporate objectives.
- Provides support to program managers in tracking budgets and estimating future costs.
Cost Monitoring & Analysis:
- Establishes robust internal methodologies and procedures for cost monitoring and control.
- Monitors monthly budget execution, identifies, and analyzes cost variances against the budget, and recommends corrective actions.
- Analyzes the financial impact of investment plans, operational changes and strategic initiatives.
- Proposes and implements improvements in cost reporting and analysis processes.
Reporting & Compliance:
- Prepares internal financial reports and reports for executive management, including key cost control KPIs.
- Ensures the correctness and accuracy of data reported to management and shareholders.
- Ensures that all procedures comply with legal regulations, accounting standards, and internal policies.
- Manages financial risks related to costs, reports any non-compliance and ensures audit readiness.
Optimization & Best Practices:
- Proposes cost optimization measures without affecting program quality or deadlines.
- Identifies and implements best practices and continuous improvement in the cost control process.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams and other entities within the group for data collection and validation.
- Leads and develops the cost control team, setting objectives, monitoring performance, and fostering a culture of accountability.
- Ensures the training and professional development of team members.
Knowledge and Skills
Educational Background and Experience:
- Completed higher education in economics, finance, accounting, economic engineering, or related fields.
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in cost control, budgeting, and financial reporting, preferably in a medium/large company or in the industrial/investment projects sector.
- Experience in team coordination and implementation of cost control procedures.
Technical and Professional Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of financial and managerial accounting, budget analysis, and forecasting.
- Familiarity with cost tracking methodologies, variance analysis, and cost optimization.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems such as Epicor and OneStream and reporting tools.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, PowerBI is a plus.
Analytical & Organizational Skills:
- Analytical and synthesis skills for interpreting complex financial data.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to align cost control initiatives with corporate strategy.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and task prioritization skills.
- Attention to detail and focus on data accuracy.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
- Clear and effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work in a team and coordinate cross-functionally with other departments.
Language & Integrity:
- Advanced English and Romanian language skills (written and spoken).
- Integrity and confidentiality in handling financial information.
