Purpose of role
The Database manager will be responsible for the management and maintenance of all databases used in the company.
The role holder will lead a team of Database technicians, each them being a specialist in a specific DB engine, between IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL, MongoDB, MariaDB.
Reporting to the Infrastructure Manager, the Database Manager will define and deliver the overall vision, standard practices and technical solutions for all databases.
Role details:
- Extensive knowledge of database architecture, to ensure correct administration of all DB engines used in the company.
- Supervision, mentoring of the daily activities of the database team.
- Developing data security and restoration policies, procedures, and controls.
- Conducting diagnostic tests and evaluating performance metrics.
- Developing procedures to ensure data integrity and quality.
- Preparing and presenting system performance reports to senior managers.
- Performing database maintenance, migration, and upgrading hardware and software.
- Documenting processes and complying with best practices in database management.
- Keeping up to date with developments and trends in database management.
- Liaise with product vendors and technical specialists to resolve issues.
Required education / experience
- 10 plus years of database administration experience
- Deep knowledge of IBM DB2 Database interfaces to other vendor products.
- Advanced proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL).
- In-depth knowledge of database technologies, architecture, and data security.
- Knowledge of best practices in database management.
- Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Required at least Bachelor’s degree.
Desirable skills / experience
- Experience in IBM DB2 database.
- Experience supporting IBM RAA (Rational Asset Analyzer) applications a plus.
- Experience in other DB’s such Microsoft Sql Server, Maria DB, Mongo DB.
- Good understanding of structuring a permissions hierarchy for an IT organization.
