Job Description
Key Tasks:
- Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise.
- Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors.
- Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access.
- Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of crash.
- Provide end-to-end technical support and problem resolution.
- Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance.
- Suggesting changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.
- Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
- Adherence to the Code of Conduct policy.
- Any other job-related tasks as assigned.
Competencies:
- Strong command of administration and support of Oracle, MSSQL or IBM DB2 and any of open-source databases (MognoDB, PostgreSQL or MySQL) is an added advantage.
- Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
- PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills are an advantage.
- Having experience with service management tools (Cherwell or Remedy etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Impeccable attention to detail.
- Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized and responsible.
- Capable of working under pressure.
- Up to date with trends and developments in database administration.
Experience & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- 3 to 6 years of experience in database administration and IT Support.
- Level 1 and Level 2 database support in production environment.
- Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
- Extensive experience with database technologies MS SQL, Oracle and Open-source databases (MongoDB or Postgresql or Mysql) along with certification is a plus.
- Experience with cloud services and devops tools is a plus.
