Key Tasks:

• Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise.
• Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors.
• Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access.
• Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of crash.
• Provide end-to-end technical support and problem resolution.
• Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance.
• Suggesting changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.
• Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures and standards.
• Adherence to the Code of Conduct policy.
• Any other job-related tasks as assigned.

Competencies:

• Strong command of administration and support of Oracle, MSSQL or IBM DB2 and any of open-source databases (MognoDB, PostgreSQL or MySQL) is an added advantage.
• Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring standards.
• PowerShell and Unix shell scripting skills are an advantage.
• Having experience with service management tools (Cherwell or Remedy etc.).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Impeccable attention to detail.
• Analytical mindset and good problem-solving skills.
• Highly organized and responsible.
• Capable of working under pressure.
• Up to date with trends and developments in database administration.

Experience & Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
• 3 to 6 years of experience in database administration and IT Support.
• Level 1 and Level 2 database support in production environment.
• Experience with Linux and Windows Server environments.
• Extensive experience with database technologies MS SQL, Oracle and Open-source databases (MongoDB or Postgresql or Mysql) along with certification is a plus.
• Experience with cloud services and devops tools is a plus.
