Our Client supplies modern retail chains, food service operators, and international wholesale partners, competing on product quality, shelf-life reliability, and compliance with EU food safety standards.
- Location - Romania (on-site, multi-shift operations)
- Reports to: General Manager
- Direct reports: Section Managers (roe salad, fish processing, frozen products)
- Role type: newly created senior leadership position
- Availability: extended and flexbile working hours required
ROLE CONTEXT & STRATEGIC PURPOSE
- This role was created to address a specific organizational gap: until now, production has been managed across two divisions without a unifying leadership layer. The Director of Production will be the first person to hold consolidated oversight of both the roe salad and fish processing lines — with a mandate to drive operational efficiency, standardize quality practices, and build the production capability needed to support the company's growth into frozen products.
- The appointment is considered one of the most critical hires the company is making in the current cycle. The individual will be expected to make a measurable impact within the first six months and will operate with direct visibility from General Management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide unified leadership across the roe salad and fish processing divisions; serve as the primary escalation point for all production matters
- Extend oversight to the frozen products line as that division scales, coordinating with R&D and commercial teams on product feasibility and launch readiness
- Lead and develop a team of section managers, setting clear performance expectations and building accountability structures across both shifts (day and night)
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing methodologies — with a strong emphasis on documented, measurable outcomes (yield improvement, waste reduction, OEE gains)
- Ensure full compliance with IFS standards; act as the operational lead during external audits and internal quality reviews
- Oversee maintenance planning and equipment efficiency programs, coordinating with technical teams to minimize unplanned downtime
- Design and track production KPIs; provide regular reporting to General Management with clear corrective action plans when targets are not met
- Manage production scheduling across two shifts in a temperature-controlled manufacturing environment
- Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising product quality or food safety standards
- Partner with procurement and supply chain on raw material planning, particularly for seasonal fish supply variability
CANDIDATE PROFILE — REQUIREMENTS
- Senior leadership experience in fish processing or food manufacturing — this is a mandatory baseline; candidates without this background will not be considered
- Demonstrated expertise in IFS (or equivalent: BRC, FSSC 22000) quality management systems and audit processes
- Proven Lean Manufacturing application in a food production environment — must be able to cite specific improvement projects and quantified results
- Experience managing large, multilayered production teams (100+ employees preferred)
- Strong analytical and reporting capability; comfortable working with KPI dashboards and production data
- Resilience and composure under operational pressure; capable of making fast, sound decisions in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work extended and flexible hours, including involvement in night-shift oversight when required
- Working knowledge of Romanian regulatory requirements for food production is an advantage
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
- Fixed salary: 2,500 – 3,500 EUR net / month (dependent on depth of experience)
- Performance bonus: 10–30% of annual salary, paid annually or bi-annually based on KPI achievement
- Company car or full business travel reimbursement
- A comprehensive onboarding plan will be agreed upon at the time of hire to support a structured transition into the role.
