Job Description
For a 4-star hotel in Venice, we’re looking for a:
Engineering Manager
You will be reporting to the General Manager and be directly responsible for smooth and efficient running of the Engineering Department in support of all other operating departments.
Main duties:
- Supervises the repair, maintenance and engineering operations according to the departmental standards.
- Coordinate and direct new projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
- Properly handles and maintains all power tools.
- Assists other tradespersons or technicians when requested by superiors.
- Keeps a close inventory of engineering stores and maintains required inventory of essential parts to ensure smooth operations.
- Take responsibility for the cleanliness and safety aspects of all plant and mechanical equipment rooms.
- On a daily basis goes through logs of the briefings and de-briefings made by colleagues
- Creates a monthly plan for training in coordination with training manager.
- Train engineering department staff on correct maintenance procedures and assists in repairs as needed.
- Avoids unsightly hazards and complies with all local regulations and codes.
- Performs repairs and maintenance work to all guest rooms, public and service areas of the hotel to ensure they are well maintained.
- Regularly inspects the entire building with particular attention on defective or deficient life safety features and to observe closely the condition of all operating equipment. Specific attention must be placed on areas of difficult access.
- Executes Effective Management of Preventive Maintenance Programme.
- Develop, implement and manage energy conservation programs for the property to minimise expenses.
- Ensures effective energy conservation measures in areas of operations.
- Ensures fire, life and safety systems are operational.
- Reviews and approves all invoices and Purchase Requests involving Technical Services and installations, machinery, parts and audio visual equipment etc.
- Assists in ensuring that the property, its systems and the operational procedures comply with all the prevailing local and national codes, notifying the General Manager of non-compliance, if any.
- Handles all guest and internal customer complaints and inquiries in a courteous and efficient manner, following through to make sure problems are resolved satisfactorily.
- Assists to proactively manage costs based on key performance indicators while still delivering the brand promise to the guest.
- Maximise engineering team’s potential with a balanced focus on operations, guests, employee and owners satisfaction.
- Assists employees; assign, direct, and evaluate their work; and oversee the development and maintenance of staff competence.
- Implement new ideas and methods and continue to seek ways of both improving contribution to the organisation’s goals.
- Ensures that employees follow all hotel, company and local rules, policies and regulations relating to fire and hazard safety, and security.
- Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and writing reports, analysing expenditures, enforcing rules, and making decisions about the purchase of materials or services.
- Conducts regular departmental communications briefings and meetings.
- Ensure proper records are kept relating to all plant and equipment for the hotel including repair and service records.
- Conduct regular Inspections
What we are looking for:
- A minimum of 2 + years in a hotel in a similar role is required.
- Prior Engineering experience in any area or trade. (Preferably hotels)
- HVAC knowledge
- Must know about plumbing and building code
- Must be familiar with procurement and scheduling programs. Possesses the ability to troubleshoot effectively
- Computer skills
- Italian and English are required
