Job Title: General Manager – Building Construction -Ghana
Reports To: Managing Director

Role Overview
An established investment group is launching a standalone building construction business and is seeking a commercially astute and technically strong General Manager to lead its full setup and growth.
This role carries end-to-end responsibility for building a scalable construction enterprise—from operational setup and project execution to revenue generation and profitability. The successful candidate will combine strategic leadership with hands-on delivery expertise in complex construction environments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Setup
- Lead the establishment of the company’s operating structure, governance framework, and market positioning
- Define and execute business strategy, including service offerings, growth plans, and competitive differentiation
- Develop and manage annual budgets, revenue targets, and profitability metrics
- Provide regular performance and risk reporting to stakeholders
Project Delivery & Technical Oversight
- Oversee execution of building and infrastructure projects across residential, commercial, and institutional sectors
- Ensure delivery within scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards
Implement robust systems for planning, procurement, contract management, and quality assurance - Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and technical standards
Commercial & Business Development
- Drive client acquisition and build a strong pipeline of third-party projects
- Lead bidding, pricing, and contract negotiations
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, and key stakeholders
- Oversee financial performance including cost control, cash flow, and margin optimisation
Operational Leadership & Team Building
- Recruit, lead, and develop multidisciplinary teams across engineering, commercial, and project functions
- Establish performance management, reporting systems, and operational processes
- Drive a culture of accountability, delivery excellence, and ethical conduct
Governance & Risk Management
- Ensure full compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards
- Implement enterprise risk management across operations and contracts
- Champion HSE, quality, and sustainability standards
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Business Administration
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related discipline
- Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) are advantageous
Membership of recognised professional bodies is a plus
Experience
- 12–15+ years’ experience in construction or civil infrastructure
- At least 5 years in a senior leadership role with P&L responsibility
- Proven track record delivering large-scale projects and building operations
- Experience in emerging markets or Africa is highly desirable
