Person Specification for the Independent Non-Executive

Industry experience

• Banking industry experience - senior / executive management experience (preferably in commercial banking or trade related function)
• Awareness and understanding of the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Bank operates

Risk

• Exposure to the UK banking legal and regulatory environment - emphasis on Financial Crime Risk prevention experience
• Experience in operational risk and control especially as relating to trade finance

Prior Board experience

• Understands the UK FSI industry and regulatory environment
• Understands the risk and mitigating controls in the industry; good exposure to financial crime prevention
• Understands the wider business, economic and market environment in which the Bank operates
• Understands the principles of corporate governance, oversight and risk culture in a Bank

Quality of Board experience

• Ability to contribute to the articulation of the Bank’s’ strategy and performance
• Understands the major environmental issues, challenges and opportunities, and ability to distil impact on the organisation.
• Ability to engage with key stakeholders – including regulators
• Ability to cultivate relationships, persuade, convene, facilitate and build consensus among diverse individuals
• Ability to promote and grow positive relationships within the Board, Bank and community
