Job Purpose:

As a Legal Counsel, you will play a vital role in providing legal support and guidance to the bank in various areas of operation.

Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory:  Offer timely and sound legal advice to various departments within the bank, including but not limited to Business, compliance, risk management, lending, and corporate affairs.

Contract Review: Review, draft, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and legal documents, ensuring they align with the bank's policies and regulatory requirements.

Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with relevant banking laws, regulations, and industry standards, providing recommendations for necessary actions.

Litigation Management: Collaborate with external legal counsel when required for litigation matters, representing the bank's interests effectively.

Risk Assessment: Identify and assess legal risks associated with the bank's activities, providing proactive strategies to mitigate potential legal issues.

Policy Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of bank-wide legal policies and procedures.

Due Diligence: Conduct legal due diligence as needed for various transactions and projects.

Legal Research: Keep abreast of changes in banking laws and regulations, providing updates to the bank's leadership.

Qualifications:

• Law Degree – LLB / LLM
• Active license to practice law in the UK
• Minimum of 3-5 years of legal experience in a financial institution or related field.
• Strong understanding of banking laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when necessary.
• Detail-oriented and highly organized.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
• Proven track record of providing strategic legal advice.
