About the Role:The overall purpose of the job is to oversee the state income tax compliance function. There will be a significant amount of work related to multistate apportionment workpapers and the preparation Disney’s largest state income tax combined returns. There will also be significant interaction with other functional groups within the tax department including planning, audit/controversy, tax provision and forecasting.

The Disney Tax Operations - Income Tax Group is responsible for the preparation and filing of all federal and state income tax returns, deferred tax analysis, and stock basis computations. The group also supports the audit and controversy function by providing supporting workpapers and drafting information document requests for federal and state inquires. The Income Tax Group assists other groups within the tax department (e.g., tax planning, tax provision, forecasting) with the tasks that reside in those groups. Team members will have continuing opportunities to work on special projects and other growth promoting activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Broad based technical State Income Tax experience (e.g., Nexus, Unity, Apportionment, etc.) and compliance issues around completing a large complex tax return (e.g., required disclosures, elections, filing procedures)
- Broad understanding of federal income tax concepts especially as they apply to tax compliance.
- Broad based understanding and ability to apply concepts of US GAAP, ASC 740, and SOX controls and procedures
- Strong desire to broaden/build skills, including keeping up with technical changes
- Ability to maintain objective financial perspective, understand broader implications to the company and how own area contributes to achievement of objectives.
- Ability to discriminate between symptoms and root causes
- Ability to lead and manage a team of tax professionals in pursuit of established goals and perspectives.
- Works with team to lead in resolution of day to day technical/procedural challenges. - Completes complex tasks and projects requiring independent initiative.
- Independently identifies and resolves roadblocks. Advises on and handles escalated issues for lower staff.
- Works collaboratively with both internal and external partners. Understands impact of own group on the broader controllership organization and overall enterprise.
- Strong information technology skills (e.g., Microsoft Office and One Source) and advocates for use of existing and new technologies to drive efficiencies.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to frame communications appropriate to audience
- Deliverable-focused, strong work ethic, and the capability to handle multiple projects and stakeholders
- Demonstrate professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude; ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Strong leadership and project management skills. Ability to lead teams and develop staff
Qualifications:
- CPA/CA
- Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters in Tax, JD, LLM)
