General Leadership and Management
The President / Provost embodies the mission of the Institute and articulates the mission for all aspects of the Institute’s programs. In keeping with the Institute’s mission, the President/ Provost fosters the traditions, relationships, and practices that determine the Institute’s functioning and culture. The President / Provost is the SPOC of the board of trustees and is responsible for the overall management of the Institute, in accordance with the board’s policies. The President / Provost is the spokesperson for the Institute with all its internal and external constituencies including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, neighbors, business community, governmental agencies, and local, state, regional and national educational organizations, and accrediting agencies.Though much of the work is properly executed through the Dean, Registrar and Administrative Head, the President / Provost has ultimate and overall responsibility for board relations, curriculum and instruction, student life, business affairs, admission, and advancement.
Academic leadership
The post-holder is responsible for:-
- Academic planning in line with the strategic plan for the Faculty, and in particular the de-coupling of the undergraduate medical education programs of the Institute, and the accreditation by the relevant Medical Councils and Licensure Bodies.
- Maintaining and improving the reputation of medical education, the Faculty and the Institute at national and international levels.
- The promotion and strengthening of research within and across the Faculty and more widely across the Institute.
- Advising and supporting academic staff in research and maintaining a personal research profile, particularly with respect to medical education.
- Encouraging and promoting effective and reflective teaching through example, support and advice.
- Developing and enforcing appropriate quality assurance mechanisms.
- Chairing meetings as required, to ensure that effective consultation takes place with students and staff, including communication of issues and policy discussed at relevant Faculty and Institute committees.
- Representing the Faculty’s views on, and interests in, education at Faculty and Institute level and to external bodies.
- Engaging in continuing professional development to ensure adequate skills and knowledge to carry out the role.
- Upholds the academic and ethical standards of the school. Supervises the selection of curricula, class schedules, assessments, graduation requirements, and all aspects of the school’s academic program.
