PROJECT
Our client’s mission is to create above state-of-the-art photonic biosensors for a variety of clinical applications, with the goal of simplifying and accelerating the diagnostics pathway at hospitals and other healthcare institutions.
The company was born as a spin-off of the Universidad de Málaga, and its technological basis is the result of decades of research and development in photonics, chemistry, and clinical sciences. The company is moving fast to solve unmet clinical diagnostics challenges and joining now will provide you with the unmatched opportunity of applying advanced technical skills to improve people’s health, and you will have a say on the way the product is designed, developed, and implemented where it is required. All of it while working in a high-tech environment in one of the most sough-after cities in Europe: Málaga!
ROL
The Senior Research Scientist is the core element responsible of developing and implementing all chemical aspects for the biosensors. In this role, you will be required to lead process development and design the surface chemistry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Surface modification, characterization, and functionalization strategy of silicon photonic biosensors.
- Quality control of the production
- Management of the research team in charge of the chemistry aspects of the biosensor
- Ability to interface with the photonic and clinical teams, and work alongside them to implement requirements and produce versions of the device applicable to different applications.
- Interaction with external parties to plan the transition from prototype to mass production of the functionalized biosensor.
REQUIREMENTS
- PhD Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, with special specialization on materials chemistry.
- +3 years of professional experience in biosensor development in an industrial/biotech company environment.
- Thorough understanding of the underlying chemicophysical interactions of polymers, dendrimers, antibodies, and proteins in surface chemistry.
- Demonstrated experience in biosensor functionalization.
- Deep knowledge on organic chemical reactions.
- Essential leadership skills to handle a small, qualified team of scientists
- Basic communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Thorough knowledge of immunology and in vitro diagnosis of immune-mediated diseases.
- Knowledge of Surface and Material Characterization Techniques
- Experience bringing commercial biosensors to market.
- Experience working with photonic biosensors
- Previous experience working in a highly regulated environment (medical IVD regulations)
