The Opportunity

We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Underwriter to strengthen our facultative reinsurance division. The ideal candidate brings over a decade of experience in engineering (re)insurance, with a proven ability to assess complex risks and develop tailored reinsurance solutions. Your core focus will be to underwrite and grow a profitable portfolio, leveraging your technical acumen and regional market insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and expand a profitable facultative engineering portfolio across Sub-Saharan Africa.
• Analyze and evaluate risks to provide sound reinsurance solutions in line with internal guidelines.
• Cultivate senior-level relationships with key clients and brokers to secure new business opportunities.
• Act as a technical mentor to junior underwriters and provide internal training and market insights.
• Conduct risk surveys and prepare detailed technical reports as needed.
• Support treaty underwriting with engineering expertise.
• Deliver high-value client engagement sessions, including workshops and seminars.
• Monitor market and portfolio performance trends to inform strategic decisions.

What You Bring

• A BSc in Engineering and at least 5 years of hands-on industry experience.
• Over 10 years in Engineering (re)insurance with strong technical underwriting skills.
• Fluent in both English and French
• Enthusiastic about travel and building business across Sub-Saharan Africa.
