JOB PURPOSE
Works closely with infants, children and adults who have various levels of speech, communication, or swallowing difficulties. Assesses client’s needs and problems before developing individual treatment programs to enable each client to improve as much as possible Treatment plans often also involve those with whom the client has a close relationship, including family, careers or teachers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Engages in education and research.
- Gives timely and constructive feedback on documents and all corrective counselling including but not limited to medical record.
- Attends meeting as appropriate and contributes ideas for improving efficiency, productivity, and patients' satisfaction.
- Shares in departmental staff meetings and maintain minutes of all meetings.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Develops thorough understanding of hospital policies and procedures and effectively participated in its execution.
- Identifies and treats communication problems related to language and speech.
- Works with patients of all ages, seek to improve communication skills through vocal exercises and cognitive therapies.
- Gives patients treatment in articulation, language, fluency, or resonance disorder, which prevents them from either being understood or understanding others.
- Identifies children’s developmental speech and communication difficulties and disorders.
- Assess/ treating and communication difficulties which may arise from a variety of causes, eg. Congenital problems (such as cleft palate) or acquired disorders after a stroke or injury.
- Devises, implements, and revises treatment programs.
- Writes and maintains confidential client case notes and reports, as well as information for clients, carers, and other professionals.
- Manages a caseload taking account of priority cases, waiting lists, successful outcomes, referral, and discharge of service users.
- Works with others to improve the effectiveness of service delivery.
- Conducts personal development reviews with colleagues.
- Supports / supervises newly qualified speech and language therapists.
- Plans and delivers training sessions.
- Contributes to the implementation and evaluation of projects and developments.
- Manage patients who suffer from certain vocal disorders.
- Provide speech therapy sessions designed for individual’s needs.
- Assist patients with disorders to learn proper swallowing techniques.
- Counsel patients and families on how to cope with communication disorders.
- Demonstrates compassionate communication skills while providing support and care to the patient as “the patient is the center of our care.”
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Education: Degree program accredited by American speech=
- Language: Excellent command of oral and written English and prefer Arabic
- Experience: Language Hearing Association (ASHA) council
- Required License: SCFS and MOH license, BLS certification.
- Must be able to clearly communicate with patients and their families, physicians, and non-medical staff.
- Must be able to effectively present information to public group and top management.
- Should possess good organization skills and able to work in highly stress situations.
