Role overview
Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Systems Administrator to become part of a skilled team maintaining their corporate IT & SaaS services. This role would suit an experience Desktop IT Engineer that has the skills to undertake both the Systems Administrator activities alongside taking responsibility for their corporate IT services for their offices across the DACH region. As your skills evolve there will be more technologies to learn and become productive on. The Operations Team supports their internal systems and their SaaS Service. They use a wide variety of deployment models and technologies offering lot’s of opportunity to improve your skills and experience, including VMWare, Amazon EC2 Public Cloud, Azure Cloud, Docker based private Cloud, Windows and Linux Servers.

Who are you?An experienced Systems Administrator who understands how to manage, patch and upgrade systems infrastructure, has experience working within a Security and Compliance controlled environment. We are looking for a Systems Administrator who is comfortable in working with Data Centre Hardware and Software Systems. You’re hungry to learn more, using your skills to help the company become more agile and grow. You will be working in a team where average is not an option, you will be lifted by the presence of your peers and aspire to emulate and become one of them.
The responsibilities of the role include:
- Supporting your internal customers with desktop IT services and managing the Desktop IT requirements for their offices across Switzerland Germany, Austria and The Netherlands
- Installing and Configuring new Systems and Applications, according to best practice and company guidelines.
- Monitoring and Repairing Systems
- Performing Upgrades on Servers and Laptops
- Maintaining Service Availability Targets
- Maintaining Service Confidentiality and Integrity.
- Working with Engineers diagnosing and resolving issues in their production environment.
- Learning Technologies to improve yourself and the capabilities of the Team
- Looking for ways to improve the service availability and recovery times
- Installing and Configuring new Physical Hardware
- Working on an On Call Rota for out of Hours Cover
- Working on Designated Tasks outside normal working hours as required by the role.
- Visiting Data Centres for Installation, Configuration and Maintenance of Computer Hardware (may require overnight stay and flights)
- Installing, Configuring and Supporting End Point Devices and Laptops
- Maintaining IT Documentation
- Managing Ordering of IT Equipment
- Travel across the DACH region as required
Must have skills/experience:- Operating Systems – You must have a good working knowledge of Windows or Linux, being able to perform installations and configurations on these environments without help.
- Virtualisation Experience – You must be comfortable using a Virtualised Environment such VMWare
- Networking – Basic Network knowledge of TCPIP, DNS, DHCP and VLANS, what they mean and their practical uses. .
- Monitoring Systems – You must have a good working knowledge of configuring and using Monitoring Systems – We use Zabbix and CloudWatch
- ITIL– You must understand the basic principles of ITIL, including Change Management, Problem Management and Incident Management.
- Problem Analysis – You must be able to take on a Technical problem that we are facing in their Application and Infrastructure stack and restore service according to play books.
- Hardware – You must have experience installing and maintaining server hardware, including racking, disk swapping and component replacement.
- Security & Compliance – You must have practical experience operating in a compliance and security monitored environment, we operate PCI DSS, SOC2, HIPAA and ISO 27001.
- Soft Skills - A native/fluent German Language speaker, also fluent in English
Advantageous skills/experience:
These are technologies that our client uses or intends to use;
- Cloud Experience - Experience supporting and managing Public and Private Clouds, we use AWS and Azure (Public) and Kubernetes (Private)
- Automation Experience - Using tools like Chef, Ansible, Puppet.
- Other UNIX Knowledge – We support AIX and Solaris servers used in Support and Development environments.
- SAN Storage – Knowledge of SAN systems, we use NetApp FAS.
- Firewall Knowledge – Knowledge of Cisco ASA or Palo Alto Firewalls
- Cisco UCS Knowledge – Knowledge of Cisco UCS Hardware

Salary will depend on your experience and will be highly competitive. All their packages include an annual bonus based on the Company’s performance, so they are all incentivised to over-achieve!
Since the start of the pandemic they have transitioned to complete remote working. They anticipate continuing to offer flexible remote working options, as such we’re open to candidates whose preference is office-based, remote, or something in-between. However, the ability to attend meetings in their offices may be required as they transition to the “new normal”.
