Candidate Advice

You're Not Job Searching. You're Just Scrolling.

Finding the right role isn't about applying to everything; it's about applying to the right things, in the right way, in the right places.

Here's an uncomfortable truth: most people don't have a job search problem. They have a strategy problem. They open LinkedIn, click "Easy Apply" fourteen times, refresh their inbox for three days, and wonder why nothing is happening. Sound familiar?

Many professionals fall into the same trap: applying for everything and hoping something sticks.

The result? Burnout. Rejection. Frustration. And often, accepting a role that was never the right fit in the first place.

The smarter approach is not to search harder.
It’s to search for better.

At Antal International, we work with professionals across industries who are looking for more than just their next move they’re looking for the right move.

And that starts with a strategy.

Step One: Stop Searching by Job Title Alone

One of the biggest mistakes candidates make is typing the same job title into every platform and expecting better results.

“Marketing Manager.”
“Sales Executive.”
“Project Engineer.”

Too broad. Too crowded. Too limited.

Instead, search by:

  • Industry

  • Skills

  • Specialisms

  • Company type

  • Career progression opportunities

For example, instead of searching “Engineer,” search for:

“Renewable Energy Project Engineer”
“Mechanical Engineer in Oil & Gas”

The more specific your search, the better the quality of your opportunities.

Step Two: Use LinkedIn as a Networking Tool Not Just a Job Board

Many candidates use LinkedIn as a digital version of job boards.

That’s only half of its value.

LinkedIn is where hiring managers, recruiters, and decision-makers are already having conversations.

Follow the companies you admire.
Engage with industry content.
Comment thoughtfully.
Build visibility.

Sometimes the best opportunities never get posted they come through relationships, referrals, and visibility.

Your profile should work for you even when you’re offline.

Step Three: Don’t Ignore other Platforms

While LinkedIn is excellent for visibility and networking, platforms like Reed can be powerful for direct applications, especially for location-specific roles and specialist hiring.

Use both strategically.

LinkedIn helps you build presence.

Reed helps you capture active opportunities.

They are not competitors they are tools for different parts of the same strategy.

Step Four: Quality Over Quantity Always Wins

Sending 100 generic applications rarely beats sending 10 highly targeted ones.

Hiring managers can tell.

Tailor your CV.
Adjust your profile summary.
Understand the business before applying.

Ask yourself:

Why is this company?
Why this role?
Why now?

If you can’t answer those questions clearly, the employer probably can’t either.

The Right Job Is Rarely Found by Accident

Career progression should not feel like luck.

It should feel like direction.

The best candidates are not always the most qualified.

Often, they are simply the most strategic.

They know where they want to go.
They know how to position themselves.
And they know when to stop chasing every opportunity and focus on the right one.

At Antal International, we believe recruitment works best when it is built on long-term career thinking, not short-term job filling.

Because the goal was never just to get hired.

It was to build the career you actually want.

And that starts with knowing how to search for it.
