The opportunity
Our international client is expanding its transportation and logistics activities between Central
Europe and Central Asia. To manage its operational business and support its continued growth,
We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Operations Director (m/f/x) based in
Vienna.
In this key leadership role, you will assume responsibility for the operational management and
further development of international multimodal transportation processes. You will coordinate
shipments by rail, road and sea, ensuring that they are handled reliably, efficiently and with a
strong focus on customer requirements.
You will act as the central interface between customers, freight forwarders, rail operators,
shipping lines, terminals and other logistics partners. Alongside managing day-to-day
operations, you will continuously improve routes, processes, costs, service quality and
operational performance.
Your responsibilities
Assume overall operational responsibility for international multimodal transportation between Central Europe and Central Asia
Coordinate and optimize supply chains involving rail, road and sea freight
Manage operational processes and monitor capacities, transit times, costs, service levels and quality
Coordinate and manage international freight forwarders, carriers, terminal operators and logistics partners
Ensure seamless transfers between different modes of transport, countries and operational partners
Proactively manage delays, capacity constraints, bottlenecks and other operational challenges
Develop and implement efficient transportation solutions and alternative routes
Manage the operational procurement of transportation and logistics services
Tender, select, evaluate and manage logistics service providers and freight partners
Negotiate freight rates, capacities, service terms and contractual conditions
Establish and maintain a reliable network of transportation, forwarding, terminal and logistics partners across Europe and Central Asia
Monitor relevant markets and identify new partners, routes and procurement opportunities
Define and monitor operational KPIs and implement appropriate improvement measures
Work closely with senior management, sales and other internal stakeholders
Contribute actively to the establishment and continued development of the international transportation business
Build scalable operational structures and processes to support future growth
Your profile
Several years of professional experience in international logistics, freight forwarding, transportation management or supply chain management
Substantial practical experience with cross-border transportation between Central Europe and Central Asia, particularly involving markets such as Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan
Excellent knowledge of multimodal transportation solutions, ideally covering rail, road and sea freight
Experience managing international supply chains and operational logistics partners
Proven experience in procuring transportation and logistics services
Strong negotiation skills, including experience negotiating freight rates, capacities and commercial terms
Sound understanding of cost structures, capacity planning and market pricing within international transportation
Experience with international transit, customs-related interfaces and transshipment processes
An established network of freight forwarders, carriers, terminal operators or other logistics partners would be advantageous
Strong organizational, coordination and problem-solving abilities
Entrepreneurial mindset combined with a clear focus on cost, quality and results
Hands-on working style and the ability to make effective decisions under time pressure
Language requirements
Russian: Very good or business fluent
English: Very good or business fluent
German: Very good or business fluent
Business fluency in Russian and English is essential, as the position involves close collaboration
with European stakeholders and operational partners throughout Central Asia.
