Senior Auditor Location: AthensWorkstyle: On-siteRole Overview: The Senior Auditor is responsible for managing assigned audit engagements across the full audit cycle, from planning and risk assessment through fieldwork, review, completion, and file finalization. The role involves performing and reviewing complex audit work, coordinating junior team members, ensuring that work is delivered within agreed budgets and deadlines, and maintaining the required standards of audit quality and documentation. The Senior Auditor is also expected to provide day-to-day guidance to less experienced team members and contribute to a professional, collaborative, and client-focused working environment. Key Responsibilities: 1. Audit Execution, Technical Quality & Risk Take ownership of assigned audit engagements or significant sections of more complex engagements, coordinating activities from planning through completion. Perform audit procedures across key financial statement areas, including cash and cash equivalents, receivables, prepayments, inventories, investments, property, plant and equipment, intangible assets, payables, borrowings, equity, provisions, revenue, cost of sales, and other income and expenditure. Prepare and review complex audit working papers and ensure that conclusions are appropriately supported by sufficient and relevant audit evidence. Assess and document the client's business processes relevant to the audit and develop an appropriate understanding of how key activities and transactions are performed. Understand and evaluate the accounting entries and underlying transactions relevant to assigned financial statement areas, including those performed by junior team members. Evaluate the structure and implementation of relevant internal controls and document control design, implementation, and operating effectiveness testing where applicable. Prepare risk assessment documentation for assigned engagements and ensure identified risks are appropriately reflected in the audit approach. Perform preliminary analytical procedures at financial statement line level, including analysis of both absolute and percentage movements within profit and loss areas, particularly on more complex engagements. Review financial statements, including the statement of cash flows and related disclosures, for both standalone and consolidated entities. Prepare and complete audit documentation required at the finalization stage of the engagement. Identify inconsistencies, unusual items, or gaps in information received from the client and assess potential explanations before escalating matters to the appropriate senior level. Ensure all audit documentation is complete, sufficiently detailed, properly cross-referenced, traceable to supporting evidence, and appropriately filed within the audit file. Remain informed about changes in applicable legislation, accounting requirements, auditing standards, and other regulatory developments relevant to clients and the Greek business environment. 2. Engagement Management & Delivery Plan and organize assigned work in accordance with the engagement timetable, scope, priorities, and available resources. Deliver assigned audit procedures and other responsibilities within agreed deadlines and promptly communicate potential delays or deviations from the agreed plan. Take accountability for the quality and timely completion of assigned work and escalate issues that may affect the engagement plan, budget, or deliverables. Monitor time spent on assigned activities and work within the agreed budget for each client or engagement. Contribute to engagement profitability by managing allocated sections efficiently and working toward the expected engagement profitability target of at least 50%. Maintain a target utilization level of approximately 85%. Take an active role in managing less complex engagements when assigned, including planning work and allocating tasks to junior team members. 3. Team Leadership & Development Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and practical support to Associate and Junior Auditors. Delegate appropriate tasks when acting as the person in charge of less complex engagements. Review the work prepared by junior team members and provide clear, constructive feedback where improvements are required. Serve as a professional example for less experienced colleagues through consistent standards of work, accountability, and client interaction. Demonstrate a collaborative approach and actively contribute to the effectiveness of the wider audit team. Participate fully in mandatory technical, professional, and role-specific training. Remain open to on-the-job learning and continuous professional development initiatives offered by the firm. 4. Client & Professional Interaction Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally in both written and verbal interactions. Respond promptly to client and internal requests, particularly where the matter is straightforward and can be resolved without unnecessary delay. Develop constructive and professional relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Demonstrate a commercial understanding of client requirements and consider the broader business context when performing audit work. Apply a structured, solution-oriented approach when dealing with problems, unexpected findings, or changes in engagement requirements. Escalate complex or significant matters to the appropriate senior team member together with the relevant facts, analysis, and potential considerations. Performance Expectations: Maintain consistently high standards of audit quality and documentation. Complete assigned work accurately and within agreed timelines and budgets. Take ownership of deliverables rather than relying on continuous supervision. Identify potential issues early and communicate them appropriately. Balance technical accuracy with efficient engagement delivery. Support the development and performance of junior colleagues. Contribute to positive and professional client relationships. Maintain the required utilization and engagement profitability targets. Keep technical knowledge current and apply relevant regulatory or professional developments to audit assignments. Minimum Qualifications & Experience: At least 3 years of relevant external audit experience. Relevant academic background in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or a related discipline. ACCA studies, completed papers, or qualification will be considered an additional advantage. Practical experience with financial statement audits and audit documentation. Experience working with financial statement areas, internal controls, analytical procedures, and audit risk assessment. Core Competencies: Strong working knowledge of English, at a level sufficient for professional written and verbal communication. Good command of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to organize multiple priorities and manage deadlines effectively. Client-oriented and commercially aware approach. Strong collaboration and team-working skills. Ability to work independently while knowing when and how to escalate issues. Willingness to travel when required by client engagements.
