About the Company
A Mumbai-headquartered manufacturer and exporter of copper and copper-alloy tubes, pipes and related products, serving AC&R, plumbing, medical, power, shipbuilding, oil and gas, and government and defence customers in India and 25+ countries. Revenue is growing from ₹722 Cr in FY25 toward a ₹1,800 Cr target for FY27, backed by a capacity expansion. The company is founder-led, and this role builds its commercial engine for that next phase.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy & Revenue Growth:
• Own the annual and multi-year sales plan for domestic and export markets, directly accountable for revenue and volume targets aligned to the company's ₹1,800 Cr FY27.
• Build and manage a robust order pipeline across existing sectors (AC&R, plumbing, medical, heat exchangers) and identify and enter adjacent high-value segments (power, defence, shipbuilding, new export corridors).
• Drive pricing strategy in coordination with Finance, balancing volume growth against margin realisation in a volatile LME/copper-input-cost environment.
Key Account & OEM Management:
• Personally own and grow relationships with top-tier OEM and institutional accounts, including maintaining and expanding existing OEM approvals (e.g. VRV/VRF approvals) and pursuing new ones.
• Protect and grow share-of-wallet within the existing customer base while systematically reducing revenue concentration risk.
Marketing & Brand Building
• Build a marketing function from the current baseline — trade shows and industry exhibitions, digital presence, OEM/institutional certifications, and public relations — to generate a qualified, marketing-sourced pipeline.
• Position the Indigo brand and Mercure Metals as a preferred, quality-certified supplier across each served sector, supporting premium realisation over commodity competitors.
Export & New Market Development:
• Develop export markets and channel partnerships in target geographies, building on the company's existing international customer base.
• Lead market intelligence and competitive positioning to inform where the company should expand ahead of and alongside the planned plant capacity increase.
Team Leadership & Organisation Building:
• Recruit, structure, and lead a sales and marketing organisation — regional sales managers, key account managers, and marketing/brand resources — capable of operating at ₹1,800 Cr+ scale.
• Institute sales processes, CRM discipline, forecasting rigour, and a performance culture across the function.
Cross-Functional & Governance:
• Work closely with Plant Operations to align sales commitments with production capacity, and with the plant-expansion programme to ensure commercial readiness for new capacity.
• Partner with Finance on receivables, credit policy, and margin governance; partner with Quality/Certifications on maintaining and expanding OEM approvals.
• Represent the commercial function in leadership reviews with the Founder and act as a key driver of the company's overall growth strategy.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
Qualifications & Background:
• A seasoned B2B sales and marketing leader with a strong track record in industrial manufacturing, metals, or allied engineering/process industries; experience in copper, non-ferrous metals, or metal tubes/pipes is a strong advantage.
• Demonstrated experience building or scaling a sales organisation through a significant growth phase, ideally in a founder-led or promoter-driven company.
• Proven track record managing OEM/institutional accounts, export markets, and pricing in a commodity-linked input-cost environment.
• Engineering, management, or equivalent professional qualification preferred; an MBA is an advantage but not mandatory given equivalent demonstrated performance.
Skills & Competencies:
• Commercial acumen: P&L ownership, pricing strategy, and margin discipline in a volatile raw-material environment.
• Organisation building: proven ability to recruit, structure, and lead a distributed sales team from a smaller or less formalised base.
• Relationship depth: credibility at CXO/procurement-head level with large OEM, institutional, and export customers.
• Strategic and analytical rigour: comfortable setting and defending a multi-year growth plan with a founder/promoter audience.
• Execution bias: hands-on, hunter-plus-builder mindset suited to a mid-market company scaling toward the next tier.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management across plant, finance, quality, and executive leadership.
What This Role Offers:
• A direct, founder-facing seat at the table during a defining growth phase — from ₹722 Cr toward ₹1,800 Cr and beyond — with real influence over strategy, not just execution.
• Full ownership and autonomy to build the sales and marketing function, including team structure and hiring, largely from the ground up.
• A business with established OEM credibility (including approvals for VRV/VRF applications) and a diversified base across AC&R, plumbing, medical, power, and export markets, backed by a planned capacity expansion.
Cross-Functional Collaboration Requirements:
• Plant Operations: joint monthly sales-vs-capacity alignment meeting; sales commitments beyond current confirmed capacity require prior sign-off from Operations.
• Finance: joint ownership of pricing governance, receivables/DSO management, and monthly margin reporting; no discount or credit-term exception outside policy without Finance sign-off.
• Quality/Certifications: proactive coordination on maintaining and expanding OEM/regulatory approvals that underpin sales in institutional and defence-linked sectors.
• Founder/MD: standing monthly business review plus ad hoc availability for time-sensitive commercial decisions; quarterly strategy and budget review as the primary planning forum.
