Tax Specialist - Hybrid
RON 8000 - 10000 Month
Location: Bucharest, Unirii Team: 3-person accounting team, all Romania-based Reports to: Accounting Manager — Bucharest Work setup: Hybrid: 4 days on-site / 1 day remote (flexible) Employment type: Full-time, permanent This is a confidential search on behalf of a large multinational group with a well-established operation in Romania. The accounting function is supported by a regional Shared Service Center that handles transactional and operational tasks, which means the local team is focused on higher-level responsibilities: statutory reporting, tax compliance, and financial controls. The Romanian accounting team is a small, close-knit group of three. This hire completes the team and will work directly alongside two colleagues, all reporting to the Accounting Manager based in Bucharest. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING The primary focus of the role is on statutory reporting and fixed assets as well as: tax calculations, VAT declarations, and IFRS. Day-to-day operational accounting sits with the SSC, so your time is spent on the areas that require local expertise and accountability: Statutory reporting & fixed assets Lead the preparation of statutory financial statements and ensure full compliance with both IFRS and local Romanian GAAP. Own the fixed assets register end-to-end: capitalization, depreciation runs, disposals, periodic reconciliations, and reporting. Prepare supporting documentation for annual statutory, customs, and tax audits; follow through on audit findings and implement process improvements. Corporate tax & VAT Handle the full cycle of corporate tax and VAT: calculations, declarations, and timely payments in line with local deadlines. Perform year-end corporate tax calculations and ensure accuracy of all filings. Track legislative updates and translate them into updated internal procedures where required. Financial reporting & internal controls Prepare and review periodic financial statements: balance sheet, P&L, and cash flow; with a focus on accuracy and completeness. Review journal entries and perform account reconciliations to maintain the integrity of the general ledger. Design and maintain internal control procedures to protect the organization's assets and prevent reporting errors. Identify financial risk exposures and propose practical mitigation actions. Liquidity & treasury support Produce cash flow forecasts and track liquidity positions to ensure the business meets both operational and strategic funding needs. Optimize cash management in line with group financial policy. Collaboration & process development Work closely with the SSC to streamline accounting workflows and improve the quality of local financial reporting. Maintain existing accounting policies and develop new ones as the regulatory environment evolves. Serve as the local point of expertise on accounting standards, keeping the team current on relevant changes to IFRS and Romanian regulations. WHO YOU ARE Experience & technical skills Around 3 - 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a multinational, retail, or FMCG environment. Proven hands-on experience with statutory reporting and fixed assets + tax calculations, VAT declarations, and IFRS: this is a central part of the role, not a secondary responsibility. Strong Romanian tax law (corporate tax, VAT). Comfortable working within ERP systems; SAP experience is a strong advantage. Degree in Accounting, Finance or related; Fluent English: you will use it regularly in cross-functional and regional contexts. Nice to have A master's or professional certification (ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is valued but not mandatory. Prior experience in an environment where operational accounting was handled by an SSC — you know how to collaborate across that boundary effectively. Familiarity with Trintech Cadency or similar reconciliation/close management tools. WHAT IS ON OFFER Compensation Gross monthly salary: open and negotiable; depending on experience. Benefits Staff discount across all company brands. Participation in the company's employee share/incentive scheme. Private medical insurance. Sports and wellness activities. Meal tickets. Loyalty and retirement rewards. Employee referral bonus.
