Finance & Accounting SpecialistLocation: ManchesterWorkstyle: Full-time, on-siteSalary: £50,000–£60,000 per annum, depending on experience and market levelContract: UK employment contractRight to work: Applicants must have the right to work in the UKAbout the Role:An exciting opportunity is available for a Finance & Accounting Specialist to join a fast-growing UK operation within a major international industrial group.This is a broad, hands-on finance role offering genuine exposure to the development and scaling of a growing business. You will have responsibility across day-to-day accounting, month-end and year-end close, VAT and statutory compliance, budgeting, cost control, audit and financial reporting.The role will work closely with UK management, international Headquarters and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, providing excellent exposure to international group reporting, cross-functional operations and finance transformation projects.It is particularly well suited to a finance professional who wants to broaden their experience, take ownership of a varied finance remit and play an active role in improving processes and systems as the business grows.Key Responsibilities:Financial Accounting & Reporting: Maintain accurate and complete financial records and supporting documentation. Support the preparation of P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and management reports. Review financial data, investigate variances and unusual items, and highlight relevant issues to management. Prepare regular financial information for UK management and international Headquarters within agreed reporting deadlines. Day-to-Day Finance Operations: Manage and support daily accounting activities, including bank reconciliations, cash flow monitoring and expense tracking. Process supplier invoices, payment requests and employee expenses in line with appropriate approval procedures. Monitor accounts payable and accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding balances. Support month-end and year-end close, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and supporting schedules. Tax & Statutory Compliance: Support UK tax and statutory compliance activities, including VAT returns. Work with external accountants, tax advisers and other professional advisers. Provide accurate information and documentation required for tax, statutory and compliance activities. Ensure finance activities are conducted in accordance with applicable UK accounting and tax requirements. Budgeting & Cost Control: Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and financial plans. Monitor expenditure against budgets and investigate significant variances. Work with operational teams to monitor costs and identify opportunities for greater efficiency. Contribute financial insight to operational and project-related decisions. Audit & Controls: Prepare schedules, reports and supporting documentation for internal and external audits. Liaise with auditors and assist with responding to information requests. Support the resolution of audit findings and implementation of resulting improvements. Help maintain and strengthen financial controls and approval procedures. Process & Systems Improvement: Contribute to the continuous improvement of finance processes, procedures and controls. Identify inefficiencies, control weaknesses and financial risks and raise these with management. Participate in finance-related projects, including system implementation and process improvement initiatives. Cross-Functional & International Collaboration: Work closely with Sales, Procurement, Logistics, Operations, HR and other departments. Coordinate with international Headquarters Finance teams on reporting and information requests. Support the development of consistent and effective finance processes across the UK operation. Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. About You:The ideal candidate will be a hands-on finance professional with a solid grounding in UK accounting and a willingness to take ownership of a broad range of responsibilities.Essential Experience & Qualifications: Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. At least 3 years' post-graduate experience in a UK finance or accounting role. Practical experience across bookkeeping, reconciliations and month-end closing. Good working knowledge of UK accounting and tax requirements, including VAT. Experience working with external accountants, tax advisers and auditors. Strong Excel skills and experience using an ERP or accounting system. Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. A collaborative and professional approach, with the ability to handle confidential and commercially sensitive information appropriately. Desirable: Experience working within an international group or multinational environment. Previous experience reporting to an overseas Headquarters. Exposure to group reporting, finance systems implementation or process improvement projects.
