Accounting Professional - Mid to Senior Level Location: Bucharest, central Workstyle: On-site This is an excellent opportunity for both mid and experienced accountinging professionals looking to take the next step in their career within a dynamic and client-focused environment. The role is suited to professionals with 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, with responsibilities and level of ownership adapted to the candidate’s experience and expertise. The position combines hands-on accounting and tax activities with financial reporting, analytical review, compliance, and, for more experienced professionals, coordination and supervision of accounting activities. Key Responsibilities: Accounting, Tax & Compliance Manage and/or oversee the day-to-day accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of clients, ensuring that accounting records are complete, accurate, and maintained in accordance with applicable legislation and professional standards. Prepare, review, and finalize trial balances, ensuring that balances are properly supported and accounting entries are accurate and complete. Prepare and review statutory tax returns and other fiscal declarations, ensuring accurate and timely submission in line with applicable Romanian tax legislation. Perform monthly and annual account reconciliations, including VAT and other relevant balance sheet and income statement accounts. Review accounting data and supporting documentation, identify discrepancies or errors, and take appropriate corrective action or escalate issues when further guidance is required. Maintain a strong understanding of Romanian accounting and tax requirements and proactively assess the impact of legislative and regulatory changes on assigned clients. Identify accounting and tax risks and contribute to practical solutions aimed at addressing issues and reducing potential exposure. Coordinate documentation and submissions required by tax authorities and other relevant public institutions, as applicable. Financial & Management Reporting Prepare and/or review statutory financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss accounts, and accompanying notes. Prepare management reporting and financial information tailored to client requirements. Perform analytical reviews of financial information and investigate significant or unusual movements in revenues, expenses, balances, and transactions. Provide clear financial analysis and explanations of material variances and accounting developments. Ensure that reporting is delivered accurately and within agreed deadlines. Quality Control & Team Coordination Depending on experience level, coordinate or supervise the work of other accounting professionals, providing guidance and reviewing the quality and completeness of their work. Oversee accounting processes covering areas such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventories, fixed assets, payroll, and general ledger activities. Perform appropriate quality checks and ensure that accounting work complies with applicable requirements and agreed procedures. Support colleagues in resolving technical accounting and tax matters and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team. For more experienced professionals, take ownership of assigned client portfolios and act as a reliable point of contact for complex accounting, reporting, and compliance matters. Process Improvement & Digitalisation Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, consistency, and quality of accounting and reporting processes. Contribute to the implementation of new tools, digital solutions, and more efficient ways of working. Support the development and standardisation of processes, working methods, and internal controls. Share knowledge and contribute to the training and professional development of less experienced colleagues. What We're Looking For At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in accounting, with the scope and seniority of responsibilities adapted to previous experience. University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, Audit, or another relevant field. Professional accounting certification, or progress toward a Romanian accounting qualification or equivalent international qualification, is an advantage. Strong knowledge of Romanian accounting principles, tax compliance requirements, and financial reporting. Practical experience preparing or reviewing trial balances, reconciliations, tax declarations, and financial statements. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies, identify risks, and develop practical solutions. Good command of Microsoft Excel and other accounting/ERP systems; experience working with multiple financial applications is an advantage. Good command of English, both written and spoken. Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and consistently meet deadlines. Clear and professional communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting and financial matters to both colleagues and clients. A collaborative mindset and willingness to support and develop other team members. Strong attention to detail combined with the ability to understand the wider business context behind the numbers. Commitment to continuous professional development and keeping up to date with changes in accounting, tax, technology, and reporting requirements. For More Experienced Candidates Candidates with stronger technical expertise and/or previous coordination experience may also take on additional responsibilities, including: Ownership of more complex client portfolios and accounting matters. Review and quality control of work performed by other accounting professionals. Coaching and supporting junior and mid-level colleagues. Managing priorities across multiple assignments and contributing to workload planning. Acting as a key contact on complex accounting, tax, reporting, and compliance topics. Supporting process improvements and the implementation of new accounting technologies and working methods.
